Mr. Horace Johnson

JOHNSON, Mr. Horace - Age 76, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2020 at his residence. Funeral service 1:30 PM Friday, June 12, 2020 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, 5175 E. Bristol Rd., Burton, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the chapel 1:30 PM Friday. Mr. Johnson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Thursday. Mr. Horace “George” Johnson was born July 17, 1943 in Norphlet, Arkansas, the son of Verdie V. and Willie Lee Johnson. Horace moved to Flint, Michigan in 1961. He was a graduate of Smith High School of Norphlet, AR (now known as Norphlet High School). Horace was a member of Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church for many years. He retired from Delphi East, a division of General Motors Corporation with 36 years of service. Horace was a Past Member of John W. Stevenson Lodge #56. He was also a member of the Saginaw Valley Consistory #71 and Oman Temple #72. Horace enjoyed singing in the Male Chorus at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and he loved golfing. Mr. Horace “George” Johnson leaves to cherish his memory: children, Horace E. Johnson (Yolanda) of Maryville, TN, Shelia Gennett Collins of Gulfport, MS, Carlos T. Benton (Rhonda) of Flint; 8 grandchildren, Mister Johnson, Kirby Bell, Jacola Smith, Zjahnese Collins, Carole Brock, Chelsey Matthews, Carlos T. Benton Jr., Bryson T. Benton and Briana Brown; 2 sister, Johnnie B. Johnson of Smackover, AR and Willie Ruth Graham of Little Rock, AR; 6 brothers, Jimmy L. Johnson of Wichita, KS, Bobby Ray (Helen) Johnson, Eddie James (Mary Jean) Johnson, Harvey Lee (Fanny Mae) Johnson, Earnest Johnson and Shenondoah (Tonya) Burns, all of El Dorado, AR; 23 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, “The Super 10”, Theodies Hampton, Jay Wilson, Frank Miller, Johnny Hollowell, James Roby and Michael Motley. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, Verdie V. and Willie Lee Johnson; sister, Rosie Mae (Freeman) Godwin; brothers, Wordie B. Johnson, Verdie “Lil Sonny” Johnson; grandchildren, Jermaine Johnson and Brittney Brown. The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many prayers, comforting messages, floral tributes and many other expressions of kindness evidenced at this time in thought and deed.
