Helen Golden

GOLDEN, Mrs. Helen (Elliott) - Age 86, passed away Friday, August 6, 2010 at Avalon Hospice. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 13, 2010 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 1083 E. Stewart Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Lewis Randolph, officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, G-5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 a.m. Friday. Mrs. Golden will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 2 p.m.- 8 p.m. Thursday. Mrs. Helen Blanche Elliott-Golden was born the youngest of nine siblings on November 12, 1923, in Camden Arkansas, to the late Henrietta and Sydney Elliott. She was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Lawrence Golden on May 14, 1948. To this union five children were born: Shirley, Lawrence Jr., Pearl, Denise and Diane. Helen and Lawrence were faithful members of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, where they served the Lord as Deacon and Deaconess for well over fifty years. She retired from Cecilia’s Nursing Home where she worked for many years as an Assistant Administrator. Helen truly loved her husband and children. No matter what it was she was there for them financially, emotionally, and spiritually. Her love was unconditional. Helen was always cooking and baking. She was famous for her homemade German Chocolate Cake. Helen would feed anybody and everybody. It didn’t matter who or what it was, from the person down the street to a stray dog, rabbit, squirrel, or bird, she fed them all. She enjoyed listening to “her” blues, especially B.B. King, he was her favorite. Helen also loved to go fishing every chance she had. You would always find Helen and one of her canine companions at a fishing spot catching some bass or bluegills. She leaves to cherish her memories: husband of 62 years, Mr. Lawrence “LC” Golden of Flint; son, Lawrence Jr. “Iggy” (Mary) Golden of Durand, MI; 2 daughters, Pearl “Buzzy” Golden (Jerry West) of Detroit, MI and Denise “Shag” Golden of Flint; 13 grandchildren, Yolontenett “Yonnie” and Antwan “Kariffe” ( Beatrice) Golden, all of Detroit, MI, Taqualia Weems, Taracia “Shawn”, Lateesha, Ricco, Edward, Deontae and LaChyara Golden, all of Flint, Shanel Golden of Indiana, Nathan and Samuel, Pikerel, both of Durand, MI; 20 great grandchildren; great great-grandchild; sister, Myrtle Samuels of Detroit, MI; 4 sisters- in-law, Lorea Golden of Flint, Savannah Hall of Arkansas, Erma Jean Love and Aressie Cross, both of Las Vegas; 2 brothers- in-law, Franklin “Red” (Littia) Golden and Willie Golden, all of Las Vegas, NV; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousin and friends; special canine companion “Popeye.” Mrs. Golden was preceded in death by her loving parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sydney (Henrietta); 2 daughters, Shirley Golden-Gant and Diane “Dinky” Golden; grandson, Alvin “A.J.” Golden; 4 sisters, Osceola Bivens, Irene Elliott, Victoria Bivens and Edna Jones; 3 brothers, John, Claude and Bob Elliott; 5 brother-In-laws, Clarence Sr., Raymond, Zelma, Nathaniel and Sandy Golden; 2 sisters-in-laws Bernice Golden and Maylee Eddington.
