OVERTON, Bro. Haywood Lee "Big Lee" - Age 61, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2005 at his residence. Family hour 10AM Monday, September 19, 2005 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11AM. Rev. Allen Overton officiating. Interment Flint Memorial park, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10AM Monday. Mr. Overton will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 10AM-8PM Sunday. Bro. Haywood Lee Overton was born December 3, 1943 in New Hope, North Carolina, the son of Frank Sr. and Lucy Elnora Overton. Haywood accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age at Leighs Temple in Hartford, NC. Haywood was Veteran of the U.S. Army, and served from 1963 until he was honorably discharged in 1966. He received a Good Conduct Metal and several other awards. After relocating to Flint, he became employed at General Motors Corporation. He retired in 1991, after 25 years of service and was a member or UAW Local #599. Haywood was united in marriage to Willie Mae Lang in 1969 and together they had five children. Haywood served as former President of The Flint Eagles Motorcycle Club, and was a founding member of the Gentlemen of Soul and Super 10 Clubs, specializing in social gatherings and events. He was also a member of the Eureka Lodge #16 and the Oman Temple #72. He enjoyed life and lived it to its fullest. Haywood loved to travel, shop, and play dominos. He also had a love for collecting hats, model cars and coins. He was full of joy, laughter and love. Bro. Haywood Lee Overton leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Willie Mae Overton of Flint; 4 daughters, Wanda Fay (Darrell) Gordon of Kentwood, MI, Wendy Faye (Wesley) Gordon of Baton Rouge, LA, Tamalon Rachelle (LeVan Meeks) Overton of Southfield, MI, and Shawntele Brown of Flint; 2 sons, Andrew Bernard Overton of Boise, ID and Allen Charles (Melissa) Overton of Flint; grandchildren, Terrence Overton, Sr., Darwin Sutton, Jr., Haywood Lee Sutton, Sr. Allen D., Andrea Jean, Allen C. II, and Ramoni Gilbrie Overton, Marissa and Isiah Golson; great-grandchildren, Terrence Overton, Jr., Haywood Lee Sutton, Jr., Marquaris, Trayshawn, and Aaliyah Overton; 3 sisters, Rosetta, Roberta and Sandra Overton, all of New Hope, NC; 6 brothers, Johnny Overton of New Hope, NC, Isiah (Viola) Overton of Rochester, NY, James (Gurline) and Charles (Patricia) Overton of Flint, Thomas (Georgia Faye) of Laurelton, NY, and Marvin (Perlinda) of Savannah, GA; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Olivia Chaney, Johnnie Hollowell, Frank Miller, Delma Jackson, Marie Jones and Bobby Slaughter. Haywood Lee Overton was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Sr. and Lucy Elnora Overton; stepmother, Mary Elizebeth Overton; sister, Lilly Overton; brother, Frank Overton, Jr.; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
