GREEN, Mrs. Gwendolyn Onita - Age 86, transitioned from this life, Wednesday, May 2, 2012 surrounded by her loved ones in the comfort of her residence. Family hour 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 2115 W. Coldwater Rd., with funeral service commencing at 12:30 p.m. Rev. Latrelle Holmes, officiating, Rev. Michael Pettigrew, Host Pastor. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Mrs. Green will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1-8 p.m. Monday. Mrs. Gwendolyn Onita (McGee) Green affectionately called “Gwen”, the fifth child of the late Thomas and Willie McGee was born November 8, 1925 in Hugo, Oklahoma. She was a resident of Flint, Michigan. Gwen accepted Christ at a very early age and was a faithful member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church for 60 years, where she served on the Missionary Board, member of the Choir, and as a Sunday School Teacher, just to name a few. She was a graduate of Washington High School in Hugo, Oklahoma and later attended Langston University, where she acquired her cosmetology license. She played as a very effective guard for one of the City League basketball teams, The Elzy Bomberettes, and was a member of the Helping Hands Social Club. Mrs. Green worked as a beautician for many years before joining the staff of the Flint Board of Education as a School Safety Advocate at Lowell Junior High School until she retired in 1987. Her hobbies included; gardening and canning, traveling, and family outings. Mrs. Gwendolyn Onita Green leaves to cherish sweet memories: her daughters, Evelyn Beverly, Michele Green and Sonia (Kelvin “Mac”) McFadden of Flint; eight grandchildren, Shelley (Lawrence) Madison of Cordova, TN, Monique Green, April Green, and Ashley Wilson, Lloyd (Tiffany) Lyles, Derrick Lyles, and Tyrone Green, all of Flint and William Stewart of Deluth, MN; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Estella Brewer of Hugo, OK and Genevieve Dosty of Stockton, CA; and a host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Green was preceded in death by her husband, Charles in 2007; and daughter, Tamara in 2010. The family would like to express special thanks to her caregivers, Cathy, Tennessee, and Deshawna, Loving Hands Senior Adult Care Services and Hospice Home Care, St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church and Greater Galilee Baptist Church families.
