SUMPTER, Mr. Gerom Chanticleer "Romeo" - Age 46, departed to glory Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Genesys Hospice. Family hour 10:30AM Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 1083 E. Stewart Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11AM, Pastor Lewis Randolph officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30AM Saturday. Mr. Sumpter will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Friday. Mr. Gerom Chanticleer “Romeo” Sumpter was born August 31, 1962 in Dallas, Texas, to the union of C.W. and Grace Sumpter. Gerom had been a lifelong member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. He graduated from Northwestern High School, “Class of 1980” and joined the United States Navy in 1981. Gerom served 4 years and received an Honorable Discharge in 1985. Gerom was gainfully employed with Lapeer Metals for 14 years. He was an avid reader and loved listening to music. In all, Gerom was a very special and loved, son, father, brother, relative, friend and child of God. Surely he will be missed; yet, undoubtedly his name, memories and good works will live on. We love him so much. Mr. Gerom Chanticleer “Romeo” Sumpter leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Priscilla Kimisha Sumpter; parents, Mr. C.W. Sumpter, Jr. and Mrs. Grace Julia Sumpter; like a 2nd mom, Ruth Ray-Reid; 2 sisters, Tamara Faith Sumpter of Flint and Chastity Joy Sumpter of Davison, MI; 2 brothers, Dwayne Edward Sumpter of Flint and Keever Darnell Williams of Oakland, CA; niece, Korea Denae Renfro-Sumpter; 2 nephews, Dondi Delandis Sumpter, both of Atlanta, GA and Jhaquavis Jhamal Sumpter of Flint; sister-in-law, Terry Claiborne-Sumpter; a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends, including special friends, Georgia, Bruce, Gus, Robert and JoAnn. Mr. Sumpter was preceded in death by his grandparents, C.W. Sr. and Ruth Sumpter of Kiblah, AR, John Henry and Annie Williams of Rosebud, TX; and mother of his child, Kimberly Crews-Sumpter. The family would like to express special thanks to University of Michigan Hospital, Genesys Hospice, all Laurene St. neighbors and friends, Pastor Lewis Randolph and the entire Antioch Missionary Baptist Church family.
