Mrs. Georgianna Polk

POLK, Mrs. Georgianna - Age 91, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Briarwood Nursing and Rehab. Family hour 1:30 PM Monday, June 30, 2025, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM Pastor Gillie Harris, officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 PM Monday. Mrs. Polk will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Sunday. Minister Georgianna (Nelson) Polk was born August 2, 1933 in Clincho, Virginia, the daughter of Reverend Gus and Christine Nelson. Minister Polk was a graduate of Highland Park High School, “Class of 1951. She also attended Combo Communication College where she received a Certification in Business Communication and an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Mott College. She was also a Licensed Cosmetologist from Fleming Beauty School in Detroit, MI. Minister Polk attended Faith Tech Bible School in Flint. She was employed by the State of Michigan and Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home for many years. Minister Polk was a member of Nelson Chapel, Trinity House of Prayer, Greater Harvest and International Gospel Center of Flint under the leadership of Pastor Gillie Harris Jr. she loved rocheting, sewing and reading her Bible. Minister Georgianna Polk leaves to cherish her memory: foster son, Demara D. Brackett; god-sons, Dewayne Daniels, both of Flint; Iris C. Abernathy, Qriy Rashid of Atlanta, GA, and Dr. Samuel W. Nelson of Ann Arbor, MI; sister-in-law, Tasleen Al’amin of Bluefield, WV; the Sharp and Walker families; a host of other relatives and friends. Minister Polk was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Gus and Christine Nelson; sisters, Dorothy M. Brozer, Irene Johnson, Gusset Lyons, Betty Estelle, Mildred Cureton and Joyce Rashi’Ajmen; brothers, James Nelson, Dawood (David) Nelson, Elijah Nelson and Rev. Salvania Nelson. The family would like to express special thanks to International Gospel Center of Flint, Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Homes and staff and Briarwood Nursing & Rehabilitation staff.
