Mr. Gary Pennyman

PENNYMAN, Mr. Gary - Age 62, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at his residence. Family hour 1:30 PM Saturday, May 3, 2025, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM. Interment, Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the chapel 2:00 PM Saturday. Mr. Pennyman will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. Gary Oren Pennyman was born on December 18, 1962 in Flint, MI to Betty F. Pennyman and Elsworth “Frank” Jones. At the age of 8, he relocated to Atlanta, GA where he was raised by his uncle and aunt, Henry and Eloise Evans. He graduated from Therrell High School in Atlanta where he proudly played football as a wide receiver. After high school, he returned to his hometown of Flint, MI where he eventually began working as an armed security guard for various companies. He later completed trucking school and traveled across the country as a professional truck driver, fulfilling his love for travel. In his later years of life, he deepened his relationship with God, embracing his faith and sharing it with others through words of encouragement and compassion. Gary had a deep love for music, especially the works of Michael Jackson and the Jackson-5. But what truly set him apart was his heart for bringing joy to others through laughter. He had a gift for laughter, a true jokester who could light up any room. He loved sharing clips from Sanford and Son, classic SNL skits and stand up comedy routines, and funny Youtube sketches, always wanting to give others a reason to smile. His way of showing love was through acts of service. He was the kind of person who always made sure you were okay, safe, and cared for— a quiet but powerful reminder of how deeply he loved those around him. Gary Oren Pennyman leaves to cherish in his memory: son, De’Andre Wilkerson of Flint, MI, daughters, Shemia (Mark Anthony) Constant of Raleigh, NC, Asiah Pennyman of Westland, MI, Ashley Pennyman of Charlotte, NC, 6 grand children, 2 great-grand children, sisters Vergenia Pennyman and Brenda Pennyman both of Detroit, MI, Jennifer Pennyman of Macon, GA, Jeanetta Star of Flint, MI, brothers Melvin Pennyman of Iraq, Lenny (Melody) Claiborne of Houston, TX, David (Donna) Jones of Flint, MI, Jermaine Evans of Flint, MI, Timothy Philips of Wichita, KS, Chris, Alonte, and bonus brother Isaac (Delphine) Lockhart of Ann Arbor, MI, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends Leanna Leipprandt and Linda Moynihan. Gary was preceded in death by his parents Betty F. Pennyman and Elsworth Jones, and sister Yvonne Pennyman. The family of Gary Oren Pennyman would like to sincerely thank everyone for their love, support, and kindness during our time of bereavement. Knowing that we all must one day cross the same threshold, it brings comfort to our hearts to know that there are special people like you who stand with us in our time of need.
