Mr. Fred J. Saffold

SAFFOLD, Mr. Fred J. - Age 74, passed away Monday, October 26, 2015 at his residence. Family hour 10 a.m. Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, G-5283 N. Clio Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Dr. K.D. Yarber, Host Pastor, Rev. Milton Saffold officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Saffold will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday. Mr. Fred Jerome Saffold was born July 8, 1941 in Montgomery, AL, to the late Fred and Blanche Saffold. He confessed Christ at an early age and joined the Historic Holt Street Baptist Church. He served as a member of the junior choir, usher board, as a youth Sunday school teacher and was a unit collection leader. Fred was a 1959 graduate of the George Washington Carver High School of Montgomery, AL. He was a member of the marching band, choir, and photography club. He later joined the United States Air Force and was a member of an international choral group that toured around the world performing shows at Air Force bases. Fred married the love of his life and childhood sweetheart, Annice Saffold, who he affectionately called “Shorty,” on December 28, 1965 in Montgomery, AL. They moved to Cleveland, OH and began their family, later moving to Flint, MI. Fred worked for General Motors Corporation and was a proud member of UAW Local 1292. He was well respected and was an advocate for fair treatment of all people. He retired after providing over 30 years of dedicated service. Fred was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved watching westerns and often serenaded his family and friends in song with his favorite selection “I Won’t Complain.” He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, attending their functions and athletic events. He was very skilled and possessed “gifted hands” having the ability to do anything. He was often referred by his son’s as “Superman.” Fred leaves to cherish his fond memories his Three Sons; Fred III (Deanne), Warren, MI, Joseph II (Alisha), Columbus, OH, and Bertrand (Mia), Columbus, OH; Ten Grandchildren, Janay, Joseph III, Arial, Fred IV, Noel, Kayla, Jordan, Eadin, Mikinzie and Jace; Three Siblings, Mary E. Saffold, Cleveland, OH, Milton (Paulette) Saffold, Mobile, AL, Joseph Saffold, Montgomery, AL; Nephew, Milton Saffold II, Atlanta, GA; Niece, Michelle (Twan) Bell, Miramar, FL; Sisters-n-law, Elaine Adams, Denise Adams and Felicia Adams, all of Detroit, MI; Brothers-in-law, Danny (Katie) Adams, Birmingham, AL, and Vernon (Betty) Adams, Detroit, MI; Special Friends, Cliff Scruggs, Sarah Clark, both of Flint, MI; and a host of Relatives and loving Friends. Fred passed unto eternal rest on October 26, 2015 at home. He was preceded in death by his Wife, Parents and Grandparents.
