JOHNSON, Mr. Eugene (Geno) - Age 65, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2013 in St. Louis, Missouri. Family hour 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Canaan Baptist Church, 910 E. Gillespie St., with homegoing service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Charles E. Roots, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Wednesday. Mr. Johnson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed Wednesday at the church during family hour only. Mr. Eugene James Johnson was born July 1, 1948 in Flint, Michigan. He was the son of Robert James and Bessie Johnson. “Geno” was the second child of seven children, raised by his grandparents Ed and Nancy Snell in Artesia, Miss. He attended Crawford Elementary school and graduated from Moore High School in Crawford, Miss. He moved back to Flint and began working for Buick Motor Division, Plant 36 for 38 years. Gene gave his life to the Lord at an early age, he was baptized at Beulah Grove Baptist Church, Artesia, Ms. He enjoyed listening to the blues, watching sports and mixing with people. He leaves to cherish in his memory wife, Bettye Jean Johnson (the love of his life); son, Emanuel (Faith) Johnson; 2 grandchildren, Noah and Kezia Johnson; daughter, Nekeysha Wilson; 2 step sons, Vernon and Lamarcus Thomas; 2 step daughters, Lavinia Thomas and Cassandra (Brian) Jones; 5 sisters, Merva (James) Rouse, Debra Reinhold, Nancy Weatherspoon, Barbara (Al) Thomas and Cynthia (David) Sanders; 4 brothers, Tommy (Loraine) Johnson, Charles (Rodie) Johnson, Kevin Johnson and Bryant Johnson; 2 uncles, Benville Johnson and Willie (Betty) Snell; 2 aunts, Mary Lewis and Geraldine Snell; 5 sister-in-laws; 5 brother-in-laws; 16 other grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends including special friends, Minnie Mines, Thelma Weens, Cleave Douglas, and Bud Patrick. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his father, Robert James (Jaunita) Johnson; grandparents, Ed and Nancy Snell and Rebecca Johnson; sister, Theresa Byas. The family would like to express a very special thanks to Venita Gregory and the Gregory family. Special, special thanks to Nancy Weatherspoon, Pastor Charles E.
