Mrs. Essie Beatrice Hobson

HOBSON, Mrs. Essie B. - Age 83, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, July 3, 2020 at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1601 Chippewa St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Jacob Hawkins, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing RD. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:00 AM Friday. Mrs. Hobson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence e. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM Thursday. , Lord, and Savior in Heaven. Essie Hobson was born on Monday, April 26, 1937 in Mangham, Louisiana. The daughter of Simmie Pater and Ruthie Reynolds, who both preceded her in death along with her 4 sisters: Rose Handy, Catherine Rodgers, Martha Reynolds, and Katie Runnels and son: Baby Boy Hobson. Essie married the love of her life, Fess Hobson, in October of 1959. They moved to Flint, Michigan in 1966 and to this union three children were born. Essie accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of True Vine Baptist Church before moving her membership to New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in June of 1966. She was an active member of New Zion and a dedicated member of the Sunday School Class. While attending New Zion, she served as a member of the Nurses Guild, Adult Choir and Deaconess Board. Essie’s biggest passion was always family, especially her four grandchildren. Essie was employed by St. Joseph Hospital where she retired in 1994. She loved sitting with her patients and helping whomever was in need with cheer. After retiring she became an entrepreneur by creating beautiful quilts. Essie was very loving, kindhearted and always pure of heart in whatever she did for those whom she loved. She was a good listener and confidant to many. Essie was full of wisdom, encouragement and support for anyone who needed it. She never turned her back on or judged her family, nor friends. Mrs. Essie Beatrice Hobson leaves to cherish her loving memories: husband, Fess Hobson; 2 daughters, Fleur Barton, both of Flint and Tesha (Marcus) Bush of Burton, MI; 4 grandchildren, Enrico Davis of Flint, DeMarcus Bush of Burton, MI, DeMarco Bush of Burton, MI, and Denisia Barton of Flint; 3 sisters-in-law, Laurine Harold of Haltom, TX, Clara Davis of Monroe, LA and Pearline (Clarence Jr) O’Neal of Las Vegas, NV; special nephew, Danny R. Mills; special friends, Annie Redman, Pam Conger, Bobsie Coates and Diane Thompson; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The family wishes to express special thanks to Tina Moreland, Thuster & Nora Cannon, Louise Herron, Florida Grymes, Pastor Jacob Hawkins, Jr. and the New Zion Baptist Church family.
