Mr. Erick Durrell Byers

BYERS, Mr. Erick Durrell - Age 63, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2023, at his residence. A memorial service will be held from 2:00 PM - to 3:30 PM Saturday, August 26, 2023, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. Erick Durrell Byers was born on March 15, 1960 in Oceanside, California to Thelma Marie and the late Glen Edward Byers Sr. Erick graduated from Beecher High School in June of 1978. He then moved to Houston, Texas where he worked as a Technician with Houston Light and Power Company. While there, he received a job offer from the United States Government International Management Agency. This assignment involved helping to finalize the construction of U.S. embassies worldwide. Erick loved to explore and travel. This assignment afforded him the opportunity to travel the world extensively to locations including Russia, China, Africa, Germany, South America, Norway, and Trinidad to name a few. Erick’s most recent place of employment was with Lear Corporation in Flint, Michigan. Erick lived a gregarious life! He rededicated his life to Christ in July of 2023. Erick was a perfectionist. He was a comedian, a historian, carpenter, and animal lover. He was also an accomplished mechanic who had a passion for restoring and rebuilding vintage cars. Erick was a loving son, brother and father, and he was excited when he became a grandfather. Most importantly, he was a phenomenal uncle, friend, neighbor and mentor. He made time to help others and he willingly shared his knowledge. Erick appreciated and assisted his elderly neighbors. He inspired and motivated his community by maintaining a pristine yard, home and vehicle. Erick enjoyed watching football, fishing, and renovating his home, along with watching documentaries and old school music videos. He loved cooking and he was also known as the scrabble guru. Erick was a very unique individual. He was a blessing to his family and friends. Erick Durrell Byers leaves to cherish his memory: his loving daughter, Jasmine Bassey and grandchildren Milan, Leana and Sandro Stjepanovic, all of Sandefjord, Norway; the true love of his life, his devoted mother, Thelma Marie Byers; his sisters, SaRyne Byers Johnson of San Pedro, California and Jewell Byers of Dallas, Texas; brother, Glen II (Gloria) Byers of Fenton, MI; many nieces and nephews including, T. Joy (Ben) Buchanan of Ypsilanti MI, Sidney B. Johnson of Laguna Beach, California, Kynnedi, Carrington, Caden and K. Lyniah Byers of Dallas, Texas, Cameron Duncan of San Pedro, California and Marvin Johnson of San Diego California, Dillon R. Byers and Key Jones of Fenton, MI. He also leaves aunts, Georgia Jackson and Rosetta Williams, both of Flint, MI: uncles, Elbert (Elaine) Mems of Redford, Michigan and Fermon Byers II of Kansas City, Kansas. He leaves cousins, Teres Jackson of Port Huron, MI, Simone Jackson of Clarksville, TN, Shawn and Stacy Williams and Darrell Mems of Flint, MI. Erick leaves a host of additional relatives and friends including: Gilbert Johnson, Charles Banks, Alose Cabell, Mr. James Kirkland, the Rogers and Pickard families, Marilyn Hudson, Kim Peterson, Tanya Jefferson , Linda and James Avent and devoted friend Ricky Grant. Erick was preceded in death by his father, Glen E. Byers Sr.; grandfather, Fermon Byers; great-grandfather, Thea Byers; grandmothers, Jewell Byers-Dean and Martha Monroe; step-grandparents, Herbert (Bernice) Dean; aunt, Dorothy (Henry) Hickman.
