JENKINS, Minister Emma Lea - Age 73, passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10:30 AM Monday, August 7, 2017 at Victorious Word Church, G-3560 Beecher Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Rodney Murphy Host Pastor, Pastor Jevez Hill, Eulogist. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 AM Monday. Minister Jenkins will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10:00 AM-6:00 PM Sunday. Minister Emma Lea Jenkins, age 73, was born in Jonesville, Louisiana in 1943, the daughter of Burreese and Elizabeth Graham. She became a mother at age 18 to Connie “Nell.” In 1963, she married Johnny Jenkins, moved to Flint, and from that union three children were born, Bonita, Vederia “Tresee" and Velma. While raising 4 daughters and working a full time job, she returned to high school and graduated from Flint Northwestern in 1985. She was employed with General Motors and retired in 1991. Min. Jenkins was a student of God’s Word, earning Ministerial degrees from both Faith Tech Bible College and Agape Faith Fellowship Bible College. She always had a wise word to all who listened and kept the faith until the very end. She was an avid sewer, fisherwoman, and she was an excellent cook! She always used food to show love to her family, and was famous for her Sunday dinners. She enjoyed going to the Gospel “sangins” concerts of Lee Williams and the Spiritual QC’s, the True Vine Singers and others. She was a staple on her block, having lived in the same home for 38 years, and never once changing her phone number. Her door was always open to anyone who came by to say hi. Her family was the love of her life. She always went through great measures to make sure they were all taken care of. She left a Godly legacy of family, love, stability, friendship and laughter for us all to remember. Minister Emma Lea Jenkins leaves to cherish her memory: 3 daughters, Connie “Nell” (Dennis) Howard, Bonita Holden and Vederia Jenkins; 7 grandchildren, LaQuanda (Jevez) Hill, all of Flint, Darnelius (Marquita) Jenkins, Dennis (Elizabeth) McCaw of Michigan City, IN, Martelles (Chakari) Owens, Reyotta, Javier and Yashira Jenkins, all of Flint; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Gloria Thomas; 4 nieces, Devea Thomas, LaTonia Thomas, all of Oak Park, MI, Xenia Swift and Tonya Ross, both of Flint; nephew, Quinton (Marlene) Swift of Atlanta, GA; aunt, Mary Ruth Jackson of Jonesville, LA; uncle, Jimmy Roy (Ruth) Spillers of Moss Point, MS; a host of cousins including special cousins, Carolyn Yurk, Georgia Mae Patterson and Patricia Spillers; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Bernestine Holmes, Oscar Jenkins, Marlene Carr, Alvin Pollard, Verena Clark, Evelyn Skinner, Michael Owens and Dianna Johnson. Minister Jenkins was preceded in death by her daughter, Velma; parents, Burreese and Elizabeth Graham; siblings, Eveline Thompson and Reese Graham.
