Mrs. Elizabeth "Liz" Coffer

COFFER, Mrs. Elizabeth "Liz" - Age 73, passed away Friday, May 19, 2017 at her residence. Family hour 10:30 AM Saturday, May 27, 2017 at Morningstar Missionary Baptist Church, 2120 N. Saginaw St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Keith J. Bigelow, Sr., officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 AM Saturday. Mrs. Coffer will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1:00 PM-8:00 PM Friday. Mrs. Elizabeth “Liz” Coffer was born March 11, 1944 in Greenville, Georgia the daughter of the late, Charlie William and Annie Pearl Leslie. Liz accepted Christ at an early age and joined Oak Ridge C.M.E. Church. She graduated from Greenville High School and soon after, moved to Flint, Michigan with her uncle. She attended Cosmetology School and upon completion received her license. While attending school, she met Willie Coffer, whom she later married. “Liz” did hair for many years, working at Three Bronze and Ethel's Dream, before retiring due to health reasons. She later worked for the Flint Community Schools at the Rainbow Learning Center. She absolutely loved her job, her co-workers and the children that were in her care. Liz fully retired in 2006, but remained active in various ministries at Morningstar M.B.C., where she was a member for over 40 years. She served on the Mothers Board, was a Nurse and a member of the Gospel Chorus and the Voices of Morningstar. Liz loved her church family and always bestowed love on them. Liz was also very active in her community, where she was a member of the Grace St. Block Club, volunteered at the Flint Police Mini Station and at GCCARD. Liz was a mother to many, she loved everyone and would always do whatever she could to help. Mrs. Elizabeth “Liz” Coffer leaves to cherish her memory: 3 daughters, Letisha (Thadddeus) Conner, Pamela (Elliot) Coffer and Mariea (Jaques) Coffer all of Flint; son, Willie Coffer, 17 grand children, Tiffany (Mario) Powell, Monica, Melvin (Tiffany) Mims, Thaddeus Jr., Shantel, Dairea, Cymiahn, Antonio, Deshawn, Shaun, Willie, Tiajja, Tiajwan, Derrico, Tastarra, Khalil and Alexandria Elizabeth; 29 great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Ruth Taylor of Memphis, TN; brother-in-law; Clifford Hardaway of Decatur, GA; special cousins, J.C. McLaughlin, Ronnie Walker, Martha Bady and Lilian Henderson; god-daughters, Mattie Donald, Jackie Tyson, Mona Releford, Laura Balknight, Elizabeth Alexander, Elwanda Ray and Deanna Bryant; god-son, Maurice Roriex; church daughters, Alfreda Jefferson and Min. Yolanda Stephens; a host of other relatives and friends, including special friends, Reola Handy, Ann Jamerson, Ruth Bryant, Dean Mays, Renee Norris, Virginia Releford, Carrie Hamlett, Connie Edwards, Jenelle Finklea, Tommie Underwood, Ernestine Davis, Janet Shaw, Lottie Branch, Christine Cox, Paul Britt and Rachel Brown. Mrs. Coffer was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Coffer; twin boys; 2 grandbabies; parents, Charlie William and Annie Pearl Leslie; sisters, Barbara Ann Holt and Charlie Kate Hardaway; sister-in-law, Geraldine McFadden; brother-in-law, Arthur Holt; mother and father-in-law; several aunts and uncles; niece, Karen Bady; special friend, Rose Tyson; and god-son, Pastor Gary B. Woods. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor and Sister Bigelow, the entire Morningstar Church family, McLaren Hospice, especially Cindy Pepin and Valerie Scott, Dr. Manjuker and the Northpointe staff, Clayton Releford, Jaqueline Deloney, Quenella McGee, Mary Frank and Travonda Edwards.
