ETHERLY, Ms. Eleanor Ann (Smith) - Age 59, passed away, Saturday, September 16, 2006 at Hurley Medical Center. Rosary Service 6PM-7PM, Friday, September 22, 2006 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. Funeral service 11AM, Saturday, September 23, 2006 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 500 W. Pierson Rd. Father John Rocus, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11AM Saturday. Ms. Etherly will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed after 12Noon throughout the Rosary Service Friday. Ann, as she so affectionately wanted to be called was the youngest of three children born to Woody and Girlie Mae (Johnson) Etherly, Sr. Her arrival came on February 7, 1947 with much hesitation it took the doctors seven minutes to get her to breathe and she became a fighter every since that day. Ann grew up in Flint and was a graduate of Northern High School. She moved away from Flint and got married. Ann Graduated from the University of Toledo, The Medical College of Ohio and the University of Michigan. After receiving her PHD, Ann moved back to Flint and continued her work in medical research at Hurley Medical Center. After five years of employment at Hurley Medical Center, Ann left to began working for Hoechst Celanese as the Director of the Eastern Region Laboratories and Safety Manager, where she worked until she retired in 1992 due to health problems. She was a devoted sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Ms. Eleanor Etherly leaves to cherish her memory: father of her children, JB Smith of Toledo, OH; 2 daughters, Lianne and Lisa Smith; son, Jeffrey Smith; brother, Rev. Woody Etherly, Jr.; adopted brother, Gilbert Block all of Flint; adopted sister, Mae (Joe) Williams of Arkansas; 5 granddaughters, Jasmine Smith, Jalyssa Dozier, India Smith, all of Flint, Jayda Smith of Holygrove, AK and Jakiya Smith of Detroit, MI; grandson, Joe Bell, Jr. of Flint; 5 aunts; 2 uncles and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends including special friends, Geraldine Sipling, Earling Loyd, Julian Greene and Sandy Howard. Ms. Etherly was preceded in death by her father, Woody Etherly, Sr.; mother, Girlie Mae Etherly and sister, Shirley (Whitmore) Etherly. The family wishes to express special thanks to Hurley Medical Center ICU staff.
