Mrs. Elaine Shelton

SHELTON, Mrs. Elaine - Age 72, passed away Sunday, August 8, 2021 at her residence. Family hour 4:30 PM Friday, August 13, 2021 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 5:00 PM. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Funeral Home 4:30 PM Friday. Mrs. Shelton will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM Thursday. Ms. Elaine Shelton was born June 21, 1949 in LaGrange, Georgia, the daughter of Bennie Sr. and Annie Bell Ellison. Elaine spent her early childhood years in LaGrange, GA prior to moving to Flint, Michigan with her parents and siblings. She met her husband James Albert Shelton and they were married March 1, 1981. They had four children whom Elaine loved dearly. Elaine was known for her outstanding work ethic as she retired from 40 years of service at Hurley Medical Center where she started in housekeeping and in future years transitioned to being a Nursing Transcriber/Health Unit Coordinator on the Pediatrics Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and the Burn Unit. Elaine was also known for her outspoken demeanor as well as her love and care for those around her. She left a lasting impression to anyone she encountered. Prior to her falling ill, Elaine was active member as the Vendor Coordinator for the St. John Street Historical Committee. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, outings with her “retirement buddies”, crocheting/knitting, and making floral arrangements. Elaine was a member of El-Bethel Evangelistic Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Mother Board. Ms. Elaine Shelton leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, Jacques (Dawn) Shelton of Flint and Bennie Shelton of Lawrenceville, GA; daughter, Shawnda Shelton of Wilmington, DE; ten grandchildren; 2 sisters, Annie Frost of Atlanta, GA and Daisy Horton of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and long-time friends including special friend Lara Nkume of Flint. Ms. Shelton was preceded in death by her husband, James Albert Shelton; son, Donnell Ellison; parents, Bennie Sr. and Annie Bell Ellison; sisters, Willie Pearl Shamlin and Mary Frances Robertson; brothers, Bennie Ellison, Jr. and John Frank Ellison. The family would like to express special thanks to all the staff and nurses of Heartland Hospice and Davita-Flint for the care of our mother. We also want to extend our appreciation to family and friends for your cards, calls, texts, thoughts and prayers during this challenging time.
