TOWNSEND, Mr. Edward - Age 57, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Gentiva Hospice. Funeral Service 11 a.m. Monday, July 1, 2013 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. Pastor E.J. Robinson officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 11 a.m. Monday. Mr. Townsend will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Edward “Leon” Townsend was born June 12, 1956 in Flint, Michigan, the son of A.D. and Christania Townsend. He graduated from Flint Northwestern High School, "Class of 1974." “Leon” was a former resident of Stone Mountain, GA. He attended the Art of the Covenant Fellowship Center, under the leadership of his friend and Pastor, E.J. Robinson, in Atlanta, GA. Mr. Townsend loved his family unconditionally, he enjoyed fishing, watching movies or should we say, they were watching him; and he loved the latest and greatest rapper “Tupac.” Mr. Townsend was also employed by General Motors for 30 years. Mr. Edward “Leon” Townsend leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Debra Townsend of Stone Mountain, GA; daughter, Monique (Rynd) Rogers; son, Russell (Samantha Steward) Fairris of Saginaw, MI; 7 stepchildren, Wayne (Amy) May, Wendy and Ray May and Christopher Brooks, all of Grand Rapids, MI, Kimberly Richard, Kiaundra and Alvin “Jr.” Golden, all of Flint; grandchildren, Danielle Rogers and Gabrielle Rogers, both of Desoto, TX; and a host of other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Diane, Lorraine and JoAnn Townsend, all of Flint; brother, Lawrence Townsend of Flint; 4 aunts; 1 uncle; mother and father-in-law, Mary and Michael Fairley; 3 brothers-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Townsend was preceded in death by his parents. The family would like to express special thanks to Henry Ford Hospital ICU and Gentiva Hospice. A very special thanks to Diane Townsend for taking care of Leon during his final year. Words cannot begin to express how grateful we are for everything you have done.
