SNELL, Ms. Dorothy Jean - Age 60, passed away Friday, April 17, 2009 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10AM Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Heavenly Host Full Gospel Baptist Church, 2205 W. Dartmouth St., with funeral service commencing at 11AM, Bishop M.C. Akins officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Saturday. Ms. Snell will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Friday. Ms. Dorothy J. Snell was born November 27, 1948 in Artesia, Mississippi, the daughter of Rena Snell, Jr. and Lula Snell. Dorothy graduated from Moore High School “Class of 1969” in Crawford, Mississippi. She later moved to Flint. Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of Heavenly Host Full Gospel Baptist Church, where she served faithfully on the Usher Board and Kitchen Committee. Dorothy was employed at Delphi, retiring in 2006 and was a member of UAW Local #651. She loved traveling and people. Ms. Dorothy Jean Snell was a loving and caring mother, which she leaves to cherish her memories: 3 sons, Ubryant Snell, Roderic (Tammy) Snell and Rayquell (Deadrian) Snell, all of Flint; 13 grandchildren including special grandson, Odrcus “Sumo”; 3 sisters, Lois (Willie) Brown, Yvette Snell, all of Maywood, IL and Virgie Snell of Artesia, MS; 7 brothers, Bobby Snell of Chicago, IL, Leon (Rosetta) Snell of Columbus, MS, Otis (Val) Snell, Larvelle (Allyson) Snell, Jessie Snell, Napoleon (Sandra) Snell and Alvin (Fanny) Snell, all of Flint; 6 aunts, Clara Lucious, Mary (Paul) Chandler, all of Starkville, MS, Mary Lewis, Jaunita Snell, Bessie Johnson, and Geraldine Snell; uncle, Willie (Betty) Snell, all of Flint; adopted sister, Myra (John) Tolon; godchildren, Shalonda Grayer, Bryant Rison, Will Guy and Darrel Snell, Jr.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special cousin like a sister, Gloria Grayer, special friends, Hattie Harriston, Julie Parker and Annetta Cooper. Ms. Snell was preceded in death by her parents; and grandson, Quinshawn Lawson-Snell. The family would like to express special thanks to Bishop M.C. Akins and the Heavenly Host Full Gospel Baptist Church family, Hurley Medical Center and ICU staff.
