Mother Doris Lee Rice

RICE, Mrs. Doris -Age 76, passed away Saturday, January 4,2025, at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, January 10, 2025, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Elder Antwain Alexander, officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 10:00 AM Friday. Mother Rice will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM Thursday, with family present to receive friends from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM. Mother Doris Rice was born to Zed Hall and Maylela Marshall-Donerson in Flora, Mississippi August 11, 1948. The youngest of seven children. She became a resident of Flint, Michigan at eleven years of age. She married Mr. Henry Clayton Rice on October 4, 1964. As the mother of five children, Mother Doris Rice remained nurturing and vibrant. She had a deep love for flowers and plants, tending to them with unmatched care and affection. To her, each bloom was a gift from God, and she spoke to her plants as if they were old friends, nurturing them with kindness and joy. Mother Rice worked in healthcare as a private nursing aid and as a CNA for Briarwood nursing rehab before retiring after 30 years of compassionate care. She was also a stunning lady of fashion, with a hat collection to rival the most esteemed of ladies. Mother Rice served faithfully on Kingdom First Church’s Mother’s Board, Hospitality, Usher Department and Communion Alter Service, she enjoyed dedicating her time, talents and energy to the Lord’s service. Her Pastors’, Pastor Antwain and First Lady Tamisha Alexander felt deep value for her commitment and heart. Mother Rice departed this life on January 4, 2025, she leaves to cherish her memory: 1 son, Lonnell Rice; 4 daughters, Zedra Gillespie-Shelby of Palmdale, California, LaQuendra (Elder Bryan) Franklin, Metter (Deacon Charles) Smith, and Tabatha Maze, all of Flint, Michigan; 13 grandchildren, Kristiana Baida, Isiah Shelby, Hevyn-Elizabeth Moore, all of Palmdale California, Darrell Roper III, Elayashia Kendall, Gabriel Franklin, Raviana Rice, Joscelyn Franklin, Ariyana Brown, Ellison Maze, Steffon Smith, Justin (Cynthia) McGuire, and Sheldon Smith, all of Flint, Michigan; 13 great-grandchildren, Neenah-James Moore, Rymaiah Willis, Elyn-Nova Willis all of Palmdale California, Darrell Roper, IV, Malachi Sanders, Jeremiah Smith, Isaiah Smith, Heaven Smith, Maya McGuire, Justin (Antonio) McGuire, Lily Freeman, Amelia Smith and Wyatt Smith; a host of other relatives and friends including, special nephews, Justin Watson and Tyanthony Lewis; special nieces, Barbara Ann Brown, Taneesha Williams, Sharon Williams and LaQuan Marshall; special friends, Otto Willingham, Kuiawa Kikes and Ms. Rosemary; special god-grandchildren, Shalonda Robinson, Fredrick Fife II and Elisha Mitchell. Mother Rice was preceded in death by, her father, Zed Hall; mother, Maylela Marshall-Donerson; 2 brothers, TJ Thompson and John Marshall; 3 sisters, Everida Veal, Tinymae Thornton and Metterzee Wilson.
