Mrs. Doris James

JAMES, Mrs. Doris - Age 83, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10:00 AM Monday, August 23, 2021 at Southeast Christian Church, 4171 Lapeer Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Pastor Kenneth M. Brown officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Monday. Mrs. James will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Sunday. Mother Doris James was born in the city of Flint, Michigan on March 8, 1938, to her parents, Ernest and Emma (Gates) Collins. Mother Doris James was the youngest daughter of 12 siblings. She attended Flint Public Schools played and loved basketball. Mother James also played the piano and loved music. After high school, while living with her sister Janet in New York, she worked at Long Island Jewish Hospital. Mother James returned to Flint and worked at Hurley Medical Center as a dietitian until she retired. She grew up in Canaan Baptist Church. Mother James was a faithful member of Bethlehem Temple Church where she received the Holy Ghost. In 1987, she joined the membership of Southeast Christian Church. Mother James was a member of both the Senior and Missionary Choirs. She was faithful to the Missionary Auxiliary and held the office of treasurer for an appointed time. For many years, Mother James was a devoted member of the Northern District Council of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World Inc. In addition, to ensure the best care for her husband, she established James Care LLC where she was CEO and managing director. She enjoyed being with family, taking family vacations, and cooking. Mother James was a loving wife and mother with tremendous wisdom, generosity, and kindness. She was loved and admired by many. Mother Doris James leaves to cherish her memory: three sons, Curtis Collins, Garret James, both of Flint and Jerry James of Long Island City, NY; grandchildren, Garrett Jr. and Courtney, both of Flint; special nieces, DeSherryl Tyler and Renee Reynolds; close family friends, Evangelist Aileen Taylor Spence, Evangelist Kimberly Dawn Hicks and Mrs. Ollie Fields; a host of other relatives and friends. Mother James was preceded in death by her husband, Bro. Jerry James; parents. Ernest and Emma Collins; siblings, Joe, Ernest (Slick), James, Paul, Rufus, Eddie, Jennie, Minnie, Emma Kate, Mattie and Janet; niece, Hattie Bradford; and nephew, Raymond McGee who were brought up as her sister and brother. The family would like to express special thanks to: Pastor Kenneth Sr. (Juliet) Brown, and the Southeast Christian Church Family.
