Deacon (Nick) Taylor,

TAYLOR, Deacon Harvie, Jr. (Nick) - Age 59, left his earthly body and went home to Glory on Wednesday, October 4, 2006 at his residence. Homegoing services will begin with Family hour 10AM Tuesday, October 10, 2006 at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, G-4805 N. Saginaw Street, with the homegoing service commencing at 11AM. Dr. Henry L. Fuller, Jr., officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Tuesday. Deacon Taylor will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Monday. Deacon Harvie "Nick" Taylor, Jr. was born February 10, 1947 in Columbus, Mississippi, the son of Harvie and Mattie W. Buchanan) Taylor, Sr. He was a 1966 graduate of R.E. Hunt High School in Columbus, MS. Harvie was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Vietnam War and receiving a Medal of Honor. He united in holy matrimony with Connie Marie Taylor in Flint, MI on February 10, 1970 and to this union two children were born. Harvie retired from Buick Motor Division in December of 1999 with 33 years of service and was a member of UAW Local 599. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at an early age and was a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a longtime member of the Trustee Board, Co-Chairman of the Deacon Ministry, Usher Ministry, Culinary Ministry, Evangelistic Ministry and Pastor's Academic Team. Harvie was known for his kind, gentle and giving spirit and could always be counted on to help others. He enjoyed playing softball, gardening, cooking and spending time with his grandchildren. Deacon Harvie Taylor, Jr. leaves to cherish his beautiful memories: devoted wife of 36 years, Mrs. Connie M. Taylor; 2 loving daughters, Monica (Roy) Haney and Akilah (Micah) Shamly; 3 grandchildren, Roy Taylor Haney, Sane't and Myles Shamly; mother, Mrs. Mattie W. Taylor; 9 brothers, Sammie (Delores), Charles (Ernestine), Johnnie (Sherry), Tommy (Tamitha), Jimmie, Lee Roy and Willie Taylor all of Flint, Ray (Margo) Taylor of Southfield, MI and Larry Taylor of Atlanta, GA; 4 sisters, Cellie Harris, Hattie and Shellie Taylor all of Flint and Martha (Wade) Deloach of Columbus, MS; 3 brothers-in-law, Will (Cheryl), McKinley (Geneva) Taylor of Lewisburg, TN and Fred (Patricia) Taylor; sister-in-law, Carolyn Taylor all of Flint; aunt, Willie Bea Buchanan; uncle, Robert (Lilly Mae) Buchanan of Columbus, MS; a host of other relatives and friends including, Pastor Henry L. Fuller, Jr. and the Mt. Calvary church family. Deacon Taylor, Jr. was preceded in death by his father, Harvie Taylor, Sr.; 2 brothers, Bennie and Jessie Taylor; sister, Margaret Taylor; niece, Fatima Crooms and nephew, Henry Harris.
