WATKINS, Mr. David - Age 79, passed away Friday, October 31, 2008 at his residence. Family hour 11AM Friday, November 7, 2008 at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 502 Leith St., with funeral service commencing at 12Noon, Pastor Daniel Moore officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 11AM Friday. Mr. Watkins will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1PM-8PM Thursday. Mr. David Watkins, Jr., was born June 15, 1929 in Newton, Mississippi, the son of David Watkins, Sr., and Alberta Hillie Winston. Mr. Watkins was a resident of Flint. He served in the United States Army and worked at Flint Metal Fab., retiring January 1, 1987. Mr. Watkins was the checker champion at Berston Field House. He loved fishing, playing cards, dominoes and pool. He also loved to eat, his favorites were ice cream, coconut, lemon meringue and sweet potato pies, banana pudding and watermelon. Mr. Watkins enjoyed working on cars, traveling in his mobile home with wife and grandkids while talking on his CB radio. His handle was “The Prophet”. He leaves to cherish his memory: 2 daughters, Patricia (Theodis) Lane and Brenda (Robert) Lee; 2 sons, Billy Watkins, all of Flint and Stanley (Kim) Watkins of Belleview, OH; 5 grandchildren, LaShawn Lee, Dedrick Watkins, Deidra Lee of Flint, Stephanie Zehner and Nicole Watkins of Belleview, OH; 10 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Shirley Watkins of Chicago, IL, Willa Mae (Milton) Jordon of Newton, MS, Irene (Carlton) Johnson of Muskegon, MI and Mamie McDonald of Los Angeles, CA; 4 brothers, Kareem (Kay) Shabazz, Perry (Sharon) Watkins, John Walker, all of Muskegon, MI, and Willie Gardner, Chicago, IL; 4 brothers-in-law, Bob Frost of West Green, GA, Robert Frost of Los Angeles, CA, Jack Frost and Walter Slaughter of Flint; a host of other relatives and friends too numerous to name everyone. Mr. Watkins was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle; parents; brother, James Walker; and stepbrother, Peter Moore. The family would like to express special thanks to Lorenzo Johnson, Wilie Franklin, Dr. Latchana, McLaren Hospice caregivers, Mel, Amy and Tammy.
