Dave Overton

OVERTON, Mr. Dave - Age 68, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2007 at his residence. Family hour 10AM Saturday, January 13, 2007 at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3502 Lapeer Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11AM. Pastor Marvin Jennings, Sr., officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10AM Saturday. Mr. Overton will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Friday. Mr. Dave "Sonny" Overton, Jr. was born October 3, 1938 in HazelHurst, Mississippi, the son of Annie Dale and Dave Overton, Sr. Dave was a resident of Flint, Michigan and was a member of Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church where Marvin A. Jennings, Sr. is Pastor. He served in the United States Army as a Military Police from 1960-1963. Dave also, attended Spring Arbor College and Mott Community College receiving an Associate and Bachelor Degree. Dave worked for Buick Plant Security a Division of General Motors Corporation and was a member of UAW Local #599 retiring in 1993 after 30.3 years of dedicated service. Mr. Dave Overton, Jr. leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Vera E. Overton of Flint; 3 daughters, Yvonne V. Overton of Flint, Leslie (Larry) Corbett of South Setauket, NY, Desiree (Micheal) Lacey of Valdosa, FL; son, Derrick (Joy) Overton of Clermont, FL; 4 grandchildren, Emanuel R. Carlysle of Lawton, OK, Sharrod and Nicole Overton of Umatilla, FL, and Ashlie N. Corbett of South Setauket, NY; 4 sisters, Delores (T.J.) Bauswell, Jeanette (Kenneth) Gramberry, Jackie (Richard) Clemons, all of Flint, and Venisa (Greg) Hearn of Alabama, GA; 2 aunts, Sarah Witherspoon of Battle Creek, MI, Bessie Bradley of HazelHurst, MS; uncle, Willie (Willimae) M. Haddley of Flint; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including special friends, Johnnie and Mel Branndon, of Henderson, NV, Sam Keys, James Waters and Phil Williamson. Mr. Overton was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Annie Dale (Overton) Johnson, Sr.; 2 sisters, Donnis and Dale Overton and 2 brothers, Eddie Lee, and Dewayne Overton. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Shah M.D., Dr. Sliver, Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church family, and many friends for your kindness during our time of sorrow.
