ARTIS, Mrs. Creshenda - Age 42, passed away Friday, August 17, 2012 at Briarwood Manor. Family hour 10 a.m. Friday, August 24, 2012 at Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle, 930 E. Myrtle Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Carlos D. Williams, officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10 a.m. Friday. Mrs. Artis will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12Noon-8 p.m. Thursday. Mrs. Creshenda (Coney) Artis was born June 1, 1970 in Flint, Michigan, the youngest child of Ulysses and Ella Coney, Jr. Creshenda attended Flint Public Schools and graduated from Flint Central High School, Class of 1988 and attained her Bachelor of Science degree from Baker College. She was a dedicated employee of Linden Charter School and Burton Glen School and a faithful member of Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle where she sang with the Inspirational Voices Choir for many years. She was an attractive, intelligent, loving and kind person. She loved her husband very much and together they were blessed with a son, Andre II and daughter, SeLaih. She loved God and her Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle family and even during her time of illness would minister to others through her unshakeable faith in God. She always had a warm, bright smile and in her husband’s words “could light up a room.” She was a excellent cook and loved to cook for her family and friends. Creshenda had a great sense of humor and a loving spirit and always kept a positive attitude even during difficult times. Mrs. Creshenda Artis leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Andre Artis; children Andre II and SeLaih; parents, Ulysses and Ella Coney; brothers, Donald (Sonya) Coney of Belfast, TN, Derrick Coney of Washington, D.C., Greg (Melvina) Coney of Columbus, OH; sister, Shirley Warsaw of Los Angeles, CA; mother and father-in-law, Jerome and Juanita Artis; brother-in-law, Anthony (Davida) Artis of Flint; sister-in law, Donnice (Jerome) Robinson of Carmel, IN; and a multitude of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends including special uncle and aunt, Alfred and Berneice Coney; god-mother, Vera Wilson; friends, Shelia, Robin and Crystal Flynn, Kadada Lenoir, Gabrielle Jones, Carmen Drake, Carmen Robinson, Michelle Parker and the entire Lenoir family. Mrs. Artis was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ulysses and Lillean Coney, Sr.; Mannie and Lena Hilbert; grandparents-in-law, George and Vivian Artis and Johnnie and Edmonia Rheaves; uncle, Robert T. Coney; aunt, Helen Conerly, Nola Mae (Mae) Gardner, and Yvonne (Vern) Klein. The family would like to thank Dr. and Mrs. Paul Musson and the staff of Briarwood Manor, the nurses of Hurley Medical Center, Pastor Carlos Williams and the entire Metropolitan Baptist Tabernacle family.
