Mr. Courtney T. Hawkins Sr.

HAWKINS, Mr. Courtney, Sr. - Age 71, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2021 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 31, 2021 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Kenneth L. Stewart, officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:00 AM Tuesday. Mr. Hawkins will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Monday with family present from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM to receive friends. Mr. Courtney T. Hawkins Sr. was born September 7, 1949 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Helen A. Wilson and Williams Hawkins Jr. Courtney was raised in Flint and attended Flint Public Schools, graduating from Flint Northern High School, “Class of 1967.” He was baptized as a child at House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church. After graduating high school he was drafted into the United States Army where he received 2 medals of honor and was later released with an Honorable Discharge. Courtney was also recognized by The Flint Journal in 2005 for saving a young girl from a burning house. He was employed at Bay Industries until his retirement. Courtney, known to many as “Hawk”, enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially football, playing horseshoes and sitting on the porch on Baker Street with family and friends having a good time. He also enjoyed attending his son and grandkids sporting events. Courtney will be greatly missed. Mr. Courtney T. Hawkins Sr. leaves to cherish his memory: daughter, Mrs. Tondalaya (Tyrone) Southward of Flint; son, Mr. Courtney (Candace) Hawkins Jr. of Lansing, MI; step-daughter, Mrs. Latrina (Jim) Willingham of Flint; 17 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, Mrs. Ava (Sterling) Murry of Burton, MI, Ms. Lisa Davis Herron of Apple Valley, MN, Ms. Shawn Hawkins of Lafayette, GA and Ms. Qutenna Mays of Dayton, OH; 5 brothers, Mr. William Hawkins of Flint, Mr. Mitchell Hawkins of Milwaukee, WI, Mr. Mark (Cassandra) Hawkins of Lewisville, TX, Mr. Michael (Claudine) Hawkins of Irving, TX and Mr. Joe William Junior (Catherine) Hawkins of Kansas City, KS; 11 nieces; 9 nephews; 1 aunt, Ms. Donna Young; 2 uncles, Mr. Alfonzo Dantzler Sr. an Mr. Ronald Thomas, all of Flint; god-daughter, Cierra Lane; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Ms. Lettie Lane, Jacoby & Jalen Powell, and Ricky Buggs. Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by his parents, Helen A. Wilson and William Hawkins Jr.; son, Tanell Burke Sr.; brothers, Zachary Franklin, Larry Franklin and Edward Smith; grandparents, Jebtee and Darous Young Sr., William and Katherine Stubbs, Mr. & Mrs. Mattie May Thomas.
