JONES, Ms. Chelonda Voniece - Age 45, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2025, at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, March 1, 2025, at New Zion Baptist Church, 1601 Chippewa St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Jacob Hawkins, officiating. Friends and family will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Ms. Jones will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday, February 28, 2025. Chelonda Vonice Jones was born May 22,1979 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Lawrence A. Jones and Shirley Jones Gilbert. Chelonda accepted Christ at an early age and was baptize at the New Zion Baptist Church. She graduated from Flint Northern High School, “Class of 1997.” Chelonda took some classes at Mott College and some online classes. She has worked at McDonalds, Targets doing inventory and then she became a Manager at Dollar General for several years. Her current job was at Purem by Eberspacher in Brighton, Michigan from 2009 until her illness. Chelonda was a quiet outgoing person. she loved spending time with her kids. She loved to travel, watch movies, and playing video games. Chelonda Vonice Jones leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Daija Dunigan of Grand Blanc, MI; son, LaRon West; mother, Shirley (Carlos) Gilbert; niece, Qyara Jones, all of Burton, MI; nephew, T’kal Clay of Grand Rapids, MI; great-nephew, Tafari Azir of Burton, MI; step-sisters, Autumn and Victoria Gilbert; aunt; Brenda Jones; grandmother, Irene McMullen; uncles, Ira (Cam) Gilbert, Huey (Sheila) Gilbert, all of Flint and Robert (Karen) Green of Atlanta, GA; co-workers at Purem; special friend, Joseph West Jr.; future son-in-law, Eddie Johnson; god-mother, Futha Williams; a host of cousins, and extended family members and other friends. Chelonda was preceded in death by her dad, Lawrence Jones; grandparents, Deacon Bobby and Dr, Essie Bailey; sister, Latoi Jones; aunt Darlene Jones; and uncle, Bee Jones. The family would like to express special thanks to Hurley Medical Center, Cleveland Clinic, University of Michigan Cancer Center, Dr. Kruss oncologist and his team.
