Mrs. Cathrine Johnson

JOHNSON, Mrs. Cathrine - Age 89, passed away Monday, January 27, 2020 at her residence. Mrs. Johnson will lie in state Thursday, February 6, 2020 in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM Thursday. Afterwhich, she will be taken to Great Southern Funeral Home, 300 Oak St., Greenwood, MS 38930, (662) 453-6524. Mrs. Cathrine Jackson Johnson was born July 29, 1930 in Greenwood, Mississippi, the 1st daughter of Warner Jackson and May Laura Jackson. She married Vance Junion Johnson on August 23, 1947, and from that union 7 children were born. Ms. Johnson, Miss Cat, or simply “CAT” as she so fondly referred to herself as, was a Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Great-Great-Grandmother that devoted the vast majority of her nearly 90 years of life to the love, care, and support of her children and their children. Ms. Johnson was indeed a warm, loving, caring, and supportive Mother, opening her heart and home to many. “Mrs. Cat” was an immaculate homemaker with a distinctive flair for the finer things this world had to offer. Her love for fashion was definitely “CAT” and she wore it well. As a great cook she left all of her secrets and tricks of the trade to her family to enjoy and pass along for many years to come. “CAT” was definitely an original with all due respect to her name sake, we love you Toledo, OH. She was our Mother, and yes indeed she was Granny, a woman who was loved immensely, and words cannot describe the void her absence from our lives will present. But life goes on, and so will we, as a family we will love one another and nurture the pain and the void. As a family we will celebrate the life of Granny from this day forward, we will cherish the love and the memories. As a family we will lay our Mother to rest, and may the Lord almighty bless her soul, and allow her to REST IN PEACE. To her grandchildren, her love for you was unquestionable, she was so very proud of you in your own special ways. Granny loved each and every one of you from the moment you were born until eternity, for her it was just that simple. Every breath she took was for the love of you. We were her everything, her sole purpose for living, and you, her grandchildren, gave her life meaning, a serene sense of joy you may never understand, but trust in her love for each of you, and take her love with you wherever you go, and in your heart she will always be there with you, right where she wants to be. To the many that loved her as a Mother and Grandmother our hearts go out to you, thank you for loving her as your own, and may God bless you with an understanding of His will be done, for she is at peace now, and forever may she dwell in the house of the of the Lord. Mrs. Cathrine Jackson Johnson leaves to cherish her memory: children, Robert Lee Johnson of San Diego, California, Earnestine Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Gerlene Hasan of Las Vegas, Nevada, Betty Joe (Sherwood Jr.) Pea of Flint, Michigan, and Edward Charles Johnson of Lansing, Michigan; brother, Eddie Jackson of Toledo, Ohio; 2 sisters, Josephine Jackson and Shellie Jackson, both of Itta Bena, Mississippi; 15 grandchildren, Dexter Johnson, Clisson Finney, Kendell Johnson, Murray Jenkins Jr., Develin Jones, Deambra Jones Johnson, Clifford Jones Johnson, Arealle’ Pea, Jamaad Hasan, Jamillah Hasan, Edward Charles Johnson II, Sherwood Pea III, Tillman Pea Smith, Ahmad Hasan, and Jameel Frank Hasan; 38 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren, for a grand total of 68; a host of extended family members and friends; a very special aunt, Mrs. Lillian Brown Austin of Toledo, Ohio; lifetime friend, Mrs. Beatrice Folks of Flint, Michigan; dear and loving son, Mr. William Epps III of Flint, Michigan. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Vance Junion Johnson; son, James Johnson; daughter, Betty Jean Johnson; son-in-law, Jameel Rashad Hasan; grandchildren, TaNisha Epps Johnson, Develin Jones Jr., Kennedy Johnson, Lavelle Pea, and Rachelle Hatter Hasan; parents, May Laura Washington Jackson, Warner Jackson, and Mary Elizabeth Brown Jackson; sister, Henrietta Jackson Williams; 3 brothers, Willie B. Jackson, Warner Jackson Jr., and Earnest Jackson; sister-in-law, Glover Love Jackson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy (Cora Allen) Jackson, Johnny (Rosie Spencer) Jackson; and 4 very special and close friends, Mrs. Jessie Fay Williams, Mrs. Mary Vance, Mrs. Annie Belt, Ms. Sophie Kelso, Mr. Leroy Jackson and Mr. Booker T. Faucett. The Family would like to express a heartfelt appreciation for the gallant efforts put forth in the care of our Mother during her time of transition. Bj thank you for everything, especially for being right there by her side, holding her hand and her heart, at a time when she needed you the most. Chuckie thank you for being there for Momma and Bj when Stine and I just couldn’t. Uncle Sherwood you are Betty’s rock, and her family is internally grateful for your love and support of her at this particular time, but as always, you are there for her. Alle’ and Big Jay to her two grandchildren holding it down on the home front our hearts go out to you for the day to day love and care you gave to our Mother, and to your Mother, thank you just doesn’t seem like enough. Ed, Josephine and Shellie. Uncle Ed thank you for being there, no matter what, this family can count on you. We know you are hurting, and we want to let you know we will love you through your pain. Count on us for a change. Aunt Jo and Aunt Shellie, Momma wanted to come back home, thank you for your help making her final wish granted, by preparing a Home going celebration and her final resting place, for that we love you dearly. Itta Bena, Mississippi home is where the heart is, thank you for the warm family welcome, for all that you have done, for she is home now. Cynthia our dear friend you were a blessing sent from God, to care for our Mother. We all should know that the Lord works in mysterious ways, he brought you to us for her, and your kindness will never be forgotten and forever embedded in our hearts. Gina you added new meaning to the word family. Thank you for all the love and care you gave our Mother.
