Mrs. Carolyn White-Stokes

WHITE-STOKES, Mrs. Carolyn - Age 75, passed away Monday, March 2, 2020 at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Monday, March 16, 2020 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Chapel 10:00 AM Monday. Mrs. White-Stokes will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 10:00 AM-6:00 PM Sunday. Mrs. Carolyn Ann White-Stokes was born March 21, 1944 in Memphis, Tennessee, the daughter of James Scott and Willie Mae White. Mrs. Stokes moved to Chicago, IL at an early age. She met her first husband, Bill Evans there. Carolyn moved to Flint, Michigan where she worked for General Motors Corporation and various other jobs. She loved to sing, getting together with her sisters and family singing. Carolyn also loved to cook and feed her family. She was a strong influence to all her family and friends. Everyone was always welcome in her home. Her favorite hobby of all was shopping. Carolyn loved her clothes and looking beautiful; as she always did. She was the type of person that when she loved you, she loved you until the end no matter what. Carolyn was a member of Church of Christ. Mrs. Carolyn Ann White-Stokes leaves to cherish her memory: 4 daughters and 3 sons, Bill (Zina) Evans, Ricky (Djenaba) Evans, Ronald (Carolyn) Evans, Sheila (Tyrone) Evans-Ross, all of Flint, Carlotta Davis-Bates of Lawrenceburg, TN, Djenaba (Shamsud-din) McDowell and Damali (Bill) Vary, all of Flint; 5 step-children, Katherine M. (William) Grays of Detroit, MI, Pamela Stokes, Rose Stokes, both of Flint, Freddie D. Arkwright of Tennessee and Jamayca (Shantez) Henderson of Southfield, MI; 31 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 5 sisters, Mary Louise White of Waukeen, IN, Doris Thornton, Patricia Loper, both of Flint, Pamela (Felix) Oladimeji of Zion, IL and Constance (Steve) Washington of Grand Prairie, TX; 2 brothers, Lafayette White and Lenny White, both of Flint; special aunt, Annabelle Cole; special uncle, Henry Cole Sr.; mother and father-in-law, Oskar William Stokes and Lillian Stokes; sister-in-law, Sylvia Stokes; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Diane and the Stokes family, the Cole family, Chamika Bates and the Bates family, the Walton family, Jane Keyes, Luke and Ada, Peggy and Eazy. Mrs. White-Stokes was preceded in death by her husband, William “Freddie” Stokes; grandson, Jeremiah Evans; mother, Willie Mae White; father, James Scott; step-father, Willie Stewart; sister, Porsha White; brothers, Larry White and Carlos White; nieces, Judy Saap, Karenise Westbrook and Tashiea White; son-in-law, Anthony Bates. The family would like to express special thanks to nurses, Nicole and Laura of Genesys Healthcare, The Hospice Team of Hurley Medical Center, and to all the family and friends that helped in these hard times.
