POPLAR, Mrs. Callie Mae - Age 75, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2012 at her residence. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2012 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Kenneth L. Stewart officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Mrs. Poplar will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12 noon-8 p.m. Friday. Ms. Callie Mae (Carr) Poplar was born October 6, 1937 in Little Rock, Arkansas, the eldest child of John L. and Rebecca Carr. She grew and strived under the influence of two loving parents. Callie Mae was baptized at an early age. Believing in God, learning hard work helps you to achieve success and standing firm for substance was the driving force Callie Mae repeatedly used throughout her life. Callie Mae graduated in 1955 from Central High School. She retired from General Motors Service Parts Operation, a division of General Motors with 34 plus years of dedicated service. Callie Mae was a loving caring person who was known by all as a sweet pleasant lady with a warm genuine heart. She was a beautiful well dressed “classy" lady with an amazing smile. She cherished her children, her family and her dog Noah. With her awesome and charming personality she made many friends and never met a stranger. She influenced others with her infectious sense of humor, and her mild manner, allowing her wit and personality to permeate most all situations. She enjoyed shopping and spending time with her family. She had a passion for working Crossword books, and loved to cook for her children. As the Matriarch of her family, Ms. Poplar was a hard working lady who strived with a determination to achieve and maintain security, a place of permanence, a stable environment and a source of stability for her children. She unselfishly made sacrifices for her children and gave unto them her unconditional love. She believed in placing her family first in all situations, often placing her needs and wants behind her family. She persevered to insure the future of her family; setting high expectations, pursuing goals and objectives, and continually loving them through every action. Her children lovingly called her "Mae". Ms. Callie Mae Poplar made her transition peacefully and she leaves to cherish her precious memories: son, Tyrone "Toddy" (Laurice) Poplar; daughter, Twania "Na Na" (Tony Smith); devoted companion of 35 years, Rudy Hill; 5 grandsons, Craig (Renae) Buyck, Varnell (Koyona) Poplar, Delano Poplar, Eric (Tiffany) Poplar, Kevin Poplar; 4 granddaughters Shalonda (Andrew) Kimbrough, Tanigha (Joseph) Ferrell, Tyronza (Marshan) Wiggins, June (Mabry Wansley) Armstrong; 16 great-grandchildren; loving caring sister, Verbalene (Horace) Jackson; adopted sister, Lizzie Neely; son-in-law, Henry Swift; daughter-in-law, Debra Poplar; special uncle, Deacon McKinley Andrews; special cousin, Jessie Mae (Robert) Harrison; special buddy, Ray Fields; dog, Noah, and Joanne Hill; a host of other relatives and friends survive including special friends, Shirley Dickerson, the Nixon and Hill family of Grand Rapids MI, The Moody Court neighbors, Carr and Andrew family. Ms. Poplar was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda "Joyce" Poplar-Swift; son, Delano Poplar; grandson Tyrone Savage; Parents, grandparents; sister, Linda Carr; brother, John E. Carr; nephew, Darryl Jackson. The family extends a heartfelt gratitude to Sierra Adams, Heartland Home Care and Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home.
