SMITH, Mr. Bruce - Age 69, passed away Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10a.m. Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service at 11a.m. Pastor Henry Horton, officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10a.m. Thursday. Mr. Smith will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12Noon-8PM Wednesday. Mr. Bruce Wayne Smith was born October 26, 1942 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Jetty Mae Chick and Roosevelt Smith. Bruce was the eldest brother to Gary Chick and Darlene Wedge. He attended Flint Public Schools, attending Clark Elementary, Flint Central High School and graduating from Flint Southwestern, “Class of 1961”; he was an excellent swimmer on Central’s Swimteam. Bruce also attended Central Michigan University. He accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, where he attended Sunday school and BYPU. Bruce married Barbara Crump and upon this union was born his daughter, Renee Smith. He had a great passion for music, he especially loved Jazz. Bruce played with bands as a teen and as an adult; he could play anything, but his love was with the Alto Sax. He wrote music and composed a song for his daughter the day she was born called, “My Love For Renee. Bruce could also be found helping his grandchildren with their homework while multi-tasking with two other grand’s. His mother will miss hearing “Awww Ma.....”; whom he dearly loved. Bruce loved sports especially basketball and football. He looked forward to shopping trips with his sister and debating with his brother, Gary. Mr. Bruce Wayne Smith leaves to cherish his memory: mother, Jetty Mae Chick; daughter, Renee (Larry) Coney; four grandchildren, Charlanda and Faniesha Smith, Zephaniah Bates and Kalien Stubbs; seven great-grandchildren, Shania and Johan Smith, Kevondrick Johnson, Omar Young, Mario Price, Jr. and Zaria Bates; loving sister, Darlene Wedge; loving brother, Gary Chick; nephew, Brandon Wedge; cousins, Bobby (Cynthia) Russell, Doug (Pat) Smith, Karen (Henry) Horton, Thomas Russell, Sharon Williams, Marvin Williams, Ronnie Smith, Jean (Richard) Dicks, Gilbert Miller and close friends, Matt Taylor and Lloyd. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his father, Roosevelt Smith; grandmother, Bessie Ashe; aunts, Rovenia Williams, Dazelrine Smith, Rose Cartwright, Marie Tate and Luella James; uncles, Thomas Russell, Eddie Russell, Booker Smith and dear cousin, Dale Miller. The family would like to express special thanks to Hurley Medical Center 4th Floor ICU nurses and staff; the staff of Hurley and Hallwood Plaza Davita Dialysis, Dr. Shumacker, Dr. Thomas, Dr. F.O. Hockenhull and First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church family, and a special thanks to cousins, Bobby and Cynthia Russell.
