Mr. Brock Sterling Murphy

MURPHY, Mr. Brock Sterling - Age 58, passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2024 in Chicago, IL. Family hour 10:00 AM Monday, July 15, 2024 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 424 Kennelworth Ave., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Rev. Jevon Catlett, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Monday. Mr. Murphy will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Sunday. Mr. Brock Sterling Murphy was born November 25, 1965 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Charles Jr. and Nancy (Gaines) Murphy. Brock married the love of his life, Alvetta and they were residents of Schaumberg, Illinois at the time of his transition, by way of West Bloomfield, Michigan. Brock matriculated through the Flint Public School System and attended Gundry Elementary, Walker School Magnet Program, The Flint Academy and graduated from Flint Northwestern High School, “Class of 1983.” Brock went on to further his education by attending Alabama State University as a proud “Murphy Man”. As a child, Brock united with the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late, Rev. J.C. Curry where he served on the Youth Usher Board along with singing in the Young Adult Choir. He was also a member of the Oman Temple #72 Youth Drill Team. One of his most memorable achievements was the Pinnacle Award he received while working at Sprint, winning the vacation of a lifetime to Hawaii. His stellar sales status began at the Bachrach Men’s Clothing Store where he earned many awards for his sales accomplishments. Brock loved music. If you knew him, you know his love for Prince, James Brown, Bootsy Collins, George Clinton and following his father’s footsteps in the love of the Motown Music Era. He drew his spiritual strength from artists such as, Daryl Coley and Marvin Winans. His spiritual journey started at a young age and continued through Christian knowledge as he obtained growth through life. Leon) Adams of Grand Blanc, MI, Paulette Coney of Wesley Chapel, FL, Carolyn Alexander of Flint, Bertha Murphy of Covington, GA and Rose Phillips of Chicago, IL; uncles, George (Esther) Smalley of San Antonio, TX, Daniel (Maxine) Murphy of Flint, Henry (Gwendolyn) Gaines of Southfield, MI and Rev. Joseph (Sheila) Gaines of Flint; god-sister, Anita (Myles) Remson of Davison, MI; a host of cousins including special cousins, Yolanda D. Cross of Flushing, MI, Tia (John) Gaines of Dallas, TX, Minister Brittny Gaines of Nashville, TN and Tyson Jackson of Flint along with the entire Cross family of cousins and the Durant, Needom, Smalley, Johnson and Murphy families. Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his father, Charles Murphy Jr.; father-in-law, Tommy L. Smith; grandparents, Johnnie and Lillie Bell Needom, Charles and Clara Murphy, Henry and Bessie Gaines; special cousins, Anthony Joseph Gaines and Jeffrey Sterling Cross Sr.; aunts, Beatrice (Jimmy) Watkins and Mary Frances (Hershell) Cross; uncles, James Raymond Murphy, Frank Andrew Murphy, Irish Conwell Gaines, Bobbie Joe Philips; and numerous other relatives and friends.
