OWENS, Evangelist Betty Lee - Age 76, passed away Saturday, December 21, 2019 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3502 Lapeer Rd. Dr. Marvin A. Jennings, Pastor. After which Evangelist Owens will be taken Wilson Funeral Home, 1020 S. Division St., Blytheville, Arkansas 72315, (870) 763-2547, for Funeral Service on January 11, 2020. Betty Lee Owens was born on November 27, 1943, in Earle Arkansas to Viola Duncan and Dick Owens. She grew up in Earle Arkansas, and then as a young adult, moved to Memphis Tennessee. After several years in Memphis, Betty then moved her family to Flint Michigan in September of 1976. She attended Lemoyne-Owen College in Memphis TN, and then continued her education at the University of Michigan-Flint. Betty is a retired school teacher from Flint Community Schools. In her earlier work life, Betty worked as an Assistant Chef, at Baptist Memorial Hospital for the Physician’s Dining Lounge. Cooking and baking became one of her primary lifelong passions! Evangelist Owens accepted Christ at an early age in her life. She was a member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Memphis at the time of her passing. She is a former member of Faith Tabernacle and Ebenezer Ministries, both of Burton, Michigan. She was a Musician and Soloist for many choirs and Gospel singing groups. Her passion for living and teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, lead her into the Ministry where she became an ordained Evangelist. She is survived by her 5 children, TC Miller of Detroit, MI, Mark (Rebecca) Miller of Grand Blanc, MI, Catherine Miller of Grand Blanc, MI, Orlando Miller of Detroit, MI, and Seteria Miller of Memphis, TN. She is also survived by 10 siblings, Quebell (Sticky) Owens of Earle, AR, Mae Jackson, Ethel Dorsey, Luella (Robert) Brown, Priscilla Lewis, Roberta Goins, Climmie (Jeanine) Dorsey, and Jessie Dorsey, all of Blytheville, AR, Cleo Dorsey of Alexandria, LA, and Gracie Golden of West Memphis, AR; her loving aunt, Rosie Myers of St Louis, MO; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends survive. Evangelist Owens was preceded in death by both parents; 3 brothers, BB Owens, Robert Dorsey Jr. and Bordy Dorsey and sister, Milinda Franklin. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Willowbrook Manor, McLaren-Flint, to the superb staffs of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and Wilson Funeral Home. Also, a heartfelt thank you and sincere appreciation to the entire Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church family.
