Mrs. Bettie B. Sanders

SANDERS, Mrs. Bettie B. - Age 82, passed away Monday, March 22, 2021 at Hurley Medical Center. Mrs. Sanders will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., Wednesday, March 31, 2021 from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM. After which she will be taken to Colvin Funeral Home, 1904 Elizabethtown Rd., Lumberton, NC 28358 (910) 738-4544. Mrs. Bettie B. Sanders was born April 4, 1938 in Elizabethtown, North Carolina, the daughter of Reverend Lawrence and Valeria Brown. Bettie accepted Christ at an early age. Her early education was in North Carolina and she attended a college in Brooklyn, NY. In 1969, Bettie and her 7 children moved to Flint, Michigan. She became a member of House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church under the spiritual leadership of Pastor Kenneth L. Stewart. Bettie was a community activist along wither her children. She was a retiree, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and neighborhood “Mom” to many. Bettie loved traveling, shopping, playing cards, Crossword puzzles and going to Oman Temple on Sundays to listen to the Blues. She eventually learned how to do the Hustle. Bettie will be remembered for the love she gave, her smile and eating Peanuts, M & M’s and Pistachios. Mrs. Bettie B. Sanders leaves to cherish her memory: 3 daughters, Alice (Frank) Gerald-Brown, Kena Gerald, both of Flint and Pamela (Gerard) Gerald-Mullin of Northville, MI; 3 sons, Russell Brown of New York, NY, Lawrence (Nelly) Gerald Jr. and Joey Gerald, all of Flint; 7 special children, David & Pam Colen, Victor Sheffy, James Brown, Rose Livingston, Shirley Dixon-Walker, Rev. Tony Ernest, Angela Williams and Darryl L. Robinson of the House of Prayer Kitchen Committee; grandchildren, Erica Santiago of Albany, NY, Theresa Gerald of Nashville, TN, Micah Stewart of San Diego, CA, Tamango Henderson, Gabriel Gerald, Alexander Gerald and Michele Young, all of Flint; great-grandchildren, Alexander Gerald of New York, NY and Kani Young of Flint; a host of cousins including special cousins, Andrea Randle, Joann & Marcellus McDuffie, Mitch & Brenda McNeil, Terrance & Stephanie Brown and Jackie Byrd; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Angela Tucker, the families of Virginia Hutchins, Jacqueline Mills, Gladys Harvey, Joyce Bah, Shirley Anderson, Geraldine Coleman, Lynda Young, Marjorie Chapman, Evelyn Trouser, Hattie Underwood and Delores Self. Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, son and parents. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Kenneth L. and Irma Stewart, House of Prayer Missionary Baptist Church family, House of Prayer Kitchen Committee, her friends at Oman Temple and the staff of Lawrence E.
