WALKER, Mrs. Bessie - Age 71, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3502 Lapeer Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Min. Perry Gill, officiating, Pastor Marvin Jennings, Host Pastor. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Wednesday. Mrs. Walker will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 1:00 PM - 8:00 PM Tuesday. Mrs. Bessie Walker affectionately known as “Miss Bessie” was born July 29, 1946 in Shreveport, Louisiana, the daughter of John L. and Bertha (Page) Watson. She grew up on the family farm where they grew their own food and helped out numerous families in need. Bessie accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Haughton Church Of God In Christ until adulthood. She graduated from Princeton High School in 1964. Bessie married McHenry Walker Sr. on June 5, 1965 and to this union 3 children were born. She moved to Flint, Michigan in 1966. Bessie attended various churches and joined Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church in March 2003. She worked at various companies before retiring from Meijer after 20 years and helped raise her 2 grandchildren. Mrs. Bessie Walker leaves to cherish her memory: devoted daughter and caregiver, Vanessa G. Walker of Flint Twp., MI; son, Michael A. (LaTonya) Walker of Chicago, IL; 2 grandchildren, Venisha L. Walker of Flint Twp., MI and Michael Z. (MJ) Walker of Chicago, IL; sister, Helen (James Sr.) Allen of Duncanville, TX; brother, John H. (Terry) Watson of Shreveport, LA; a host of nieces and great-nieces residing in both Dallas, TX and Louisiana including special niece, Sonya (Lawrence) Frye of Ovilla, TX; special nephew, James (Yolanda) Allen of Lancaster, TX; special cousin, Beverly Burks of Grand Blanc, MI; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Tanya Coleman and Ellen Gist, both of Flint. Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her son, McHenry Walker Jr.; parents, John and Bertha Watson; former husband and father of her children, McHenry Walker Sr.; and special cousin, Mattie Burks. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Marvin A. Jennings Sr. and the Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church family, Dr. Tommy Stevens and staff, Heart to Heart Hospice and staff especially, Julie, Jill, Marsha and Cyndi. Special friends, Carolyn Turner, Inga Watson and all the people that called, prayed and extended words of encouragement.
