BROWN, Ms. Bessie Jean - Age 71, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Fostrian Manor. Family hour 10 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2015 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Rev. Kenneth L. Stewart officiating. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10 a.m. Thursday. Ms. Brown will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12 p.m. - 8 p.m., with the family present from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Wednesday. Ms. Bessie Jean Brown was born June 10, 1944 in Weir, Mississippi to the late Benonia and Clare Miller. She accepted Christ at an early age. Bessie attended Flint Community Schools. She enjoyed Ebenezer’s Street Ministry under the leadership of Bishop Urundi Knox. She loved the Sunday baseball games at Berston Field House. She enjoyed playing pool and was affectionately called “Eight Ball.” She also enjoyed cooking and being around family and friends. She was a loving person and a joy to be around. Ms. Bessie Jean Brown leaves cherish her memories: son, Joseph Turhon; grandson, Anthony Turhon Brown of Toledo, OH; 2 devoted brothers, Vernon Miller Sr., and Leon (Willie Mae) Miller; 3 sisters, Mattie Young of Chicago, IL, Lallie Marshall, and Deloris Kennedy, both of Evanston, IL; 2 sisters-In-law, Beverly Miller of Kansas, MO and Rita Miller of Fort Worth, TX; nieces and nephews, Jacqueline Westbrooks, Craig Rawls, Jeffery (Karenise) Westbrook, Darnell (Valarie) Westbrook, Leon A. Miller, Melody Center, Vernon Miller Jr., Lisha Miller, Deonca Miller, Anthony Fleming, Kelly Miller, Jozet Miller, Tia Miller, Cortez Bailey all of Flint, MI and Trent Jackson of Fort Worth, TX; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Ms. Brown was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Brown; parents, Benonia and Clare Miller; 5 brothers, Joe Miller, Glen (Gladys) Miller, Jessie Miller, Duane Miller and Lamar Miller; sister, Betty Westbrooks; niece, Shalon Miller; and nephews, Darryl Miller and Henry Westbrooks.
