Mrs. Berthola Altheimer

ALTHEIMER, Mrs. Berthola - Age 100, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Thursday, May 15, 2025 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment Flint Memorial Park, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the chapel 10:00 AM Thursday. Mrs. Altheimer will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home. Public viewing will be during family hour only. Berthola Ross-Altheimer, affectionately known as “Bert,” was born July 31, 1924, in Rison, Arkansas, the second child and first daughter to Ed Ross, Sr., and Genoa Hutchins-Ross. She attended and graduated from Rison Public Schools. She married the love of her life, V.O. Altheimer, on June 11, 1949. At the time of his passing, they had been married 46 years. To this union, 5 children were born: Jerome, Dale, Debra, Pamela, and Anthony. Bert and V.O. worked tirelessly with their fellow neighbors in the Flint community and other Carton Street Block Club residents to keep the area safe and clean. Berthola celebrated her 100th birthday as the family matriarch in July 2024. It was a grand celebration attended by her family, friends, and those who loved and appreciated her greatly. After graduating from high school in 1942, Berthola left Rison and made Flint, Michigan her home in 1944. She began her career at General Motors – A.C. Sparkplug in 1946 and retired in 1979. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life; she was a devoted member of Metropolitan Baptist Church for over 50 years and served faithfully on the church’s Nurses Guild for many of those years. Berthola lived in Flint for more than 80 years, spending over 70 of those years as a proud Carton Street homeowner. Berthola loved her family deeply, using her home as a safe haven whenever family members moved to the area, helping them settle and become established. Her style remained impeccable. Always classy, her style was evident at her 100th birthday party, when she pointed her toe so everyone could see her beautiful, elegant shoes. She leaves to cherish her memory three children: Debra Altheimer-Richardson (Charles), Pamela Altheimer, and Anthony Altheimer (Sherry Allen), all of Flint, Michigan. Seven Grandchildren: Ronda Mabry, Anthony Lemon, Chase Richardson, Shannon Richardson, Anthony Altheimer II (Martesha), Christopher Altheimer, Nicholas Altheimer, and 15 Great-Grandchildren. Sister JoAnn Ross-Jordan and Sister-in-law Mrs. Lottie Ross, both of Flint, Michigan, and Brother-in-law Candy Jones Jr., of Mt. Morris, Michigan. A host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, including special nieces Phyllis Jackson, Daria Ross and Benita Seale, special friends Excellento “Jube” Davis, Brad Moore and Godson Antoine Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, V.O. Altheimer, Sons: Jerome Altheimer and Dale Altheimer; her parents: Ed Ross Sr., and Genoa Hutchins-Ross; Brothers: Ed Ross Jr., and Otha Lee Ross; and Sisters: Thelma Lathon and Doriscene Ross-Jones; Bonus daughter Gail Campbell-Lemon, and Granddaughter Starlettar Richardson.
