NELSON, Mrs. Bernie Lanell - Age 70, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Victorious Believers Ministries, 624 S. Outer Dr., Saginaw, MI, with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Christopher V. Pryor officiating. Entombment Crestwood Memorial Cemetery, 2020 E. Hill Rd., Grand Blanc, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mrs. Nelson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday with the family present from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM to receive friends. Bernie was born January 6, 1948 in Belton, S.C, the daughter of Leon Prince and Ellese (Hall) Cooley. The family relocated to Flint, MI in 1953. Bernie was lead to Christ in 1998 after many inspiring phone calls from Evangelist Ruth C. Pryor. From that day, she has been running hard for the Lord and has become a pillar member at Victorious Believers Ministries where she faithfully served as the President of the Ambassadors (Greeters), Children’s Church Teacher, Flint Life Group Leader and volunteered for numerous events and activities. Bernie was recognized as Woman of the Year in 2016. She loved her VBM Church Family. Bernie graduated with honors from Flint Northwestern High School c/o 1965 and was united with the love of her life Eugene Nelson, Sr. for over 50 years. She began her career with the United States Postal Service and successfully climbed her way up the corporate ladder retiring as the Manager of Distribution Operations after 38 years of dedicated service. Bernie enjoyed spending time with her family (especially the grandchildren – not missing one event), Cooley sister outings, gardening, vacationing and fellowshipping with family and friends at the annual Labor Day Picnic. Bernie is survived by her husband, Eugene Nelson, Sr.; children, Marva Denise Nelson of Atlanta, GA, Samona Jean Nelson of Grand Blanc, MI, Eugene Nelson, Jr. of Belleville, MI, Keith Lamar Nelson of Texas, Monica (Sean) Wilford of Fort Worth, TX and Kenyatta (Pastor Christopher) Pryor of Saginaw, MI; Grandchildren whom she adored: Di’aja, Cimone, Kayla, Davina, Keith Jr., Willie Jr., Reginald Jr., Miranda, Tiyanna, Terence II, Jada, Kaden, Sascha, Joshua, Carrington, Gabrielle, Devon, Chandler; great-grandchildren, Jamari, Blaise, Roman, Rickii, Taedyn; sisters, Agnes Elaine Greene of Flint, Sondra G. (Charles) Redmon of Jonesville, LA, Minister Patricia A. (Pastor Rodney) Hamer of Flushing, MI, Joyce M. (Cleo) Newton, and Minister Lisa C. (Ricky) Banks of Grand Blanc, MI; brother, Gregory N. (Theresa) Cooley of Mt Morris; aunt, Sarah (Edward) Harrison of Clayton, NJ; brother-in-law, Pete (Madeline) Roberts of Flint; sisters-in-law, Mary Cooley of Flint Township, MI; sister-in-law, Glenda Nelson of Atlanta, GA; aunt, Betty Jones of Flint and a multitude of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends including special friends, The Flint Life Group. Bernie was preceded in death by her parents, Leon P. Sr. and Ellese Cooley; brother, Leon, Jr.; mother-in-Law, Mattie Roberts; daughter-in-law, Bridgette Nelson; brothers-in-law, Charles A. Greene, Leonard Brooks III and Eric D. Redmond; sister-in-law, Eunice Cooley; and nephew, Zion Roberts.
