KING, Mother. Bennie - Age 81, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in Flint, MI. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, May 30, 2026, at New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church, 1035 E. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 Am Pastor Alfred J. Harris Jr., Host Pastor, Rev. Dr. Edward McCree, Presiding. Entombment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday, May 30, 2026. Mother King will lie in state at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 1083 E. Stewart Ave., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM Friday, May 29, 2026, with family present from 4:00 PM-6:00 PM to receive friends. Obituar y Mrs. Bennie Ruth Wilkerson King, affectionately known to her family and friends as Momma, Granny, Grandma, Sister King, Bennie King, “BK”, Ms. Bennie, Bennie Ruth, Bennie or Mrs. King, just to name a few, she had many names, but was one sweet soul to everyone who really knew her. She was not perfect, but perfect for us. It is with such profound sorrow, yet humble submission to the will of God, that we are announcing the peaceful transition of our beloved Mother who entered her eternal resting place in infinity on May 19, 2026, at the seasoned age of 81. Bennie Ruth Wilkerson was born on August 16, 1944, in Jonesville, Louisiana. Bennie was the cherished daughter of Ben and Lucille Wilkerson. She was raised in a loving home and accepted Christ at an early age, developing a steadfast faith that remained the foundation of her life. She was married to Arthur L. King. Bennie attended Jonesville Consolidated High School, graduating in 1962. She completed the Nursing Training Program and worked in Jonesville, LA at Dr. Charlie Passman’s Clinic as a nurse before moving to Flint, MI where she has resided for more than 50 years. She spent 38 successful years working for the United States Postal Service where she retired as a supervisor. She was highly respected for her dedication, kindness and hard work. Beyond her professional life, Bennie had a fierce love and passion for helping others. Bennie was a devoted member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Flint, MI, under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Edward McCree II. She faithfully served as Chairman of the Trustee Ministry. Before this assignment she worked with the Finance team for many years and currently worked on the Hospitality, Hostess and Decorating Ministry as chairman, she served as a summer school feeding program worker and also served as a member of the A.S. K. Program under First Lady Crystal McCree, with whom she shared a deep and special bond. First Lady McCree’s friendship and sisterhood meant so much to her. She was an integral part of the Great Lakes District Women’s Department serving on the Decorating Hospitality and Hostess committees under First Lady Marilyn Fuller, President of the GLBDA Women Auxiliary. Bennie was a member of the Flint City Wide Choir for 23 years under Sister Delorious Roberts. She was Chairman for the “Why We Sing Banquet” Committee. Lastly, she received the prestigious Women in Power Award at the Hand of God Ministries presented by Pastor Dr. Tonya C. Bailey. Bennie was a phenomenal cook and organizer for all family and church events. Gifted with a nurturing spirit, she was a caregiver by nature and devoted her life to serving, uplifting and caring for others with compassion and grace. She opened her home to so many families and friends. She adored food, truly loved it and found joy in every bite. She enjoyed sports and coaching all pro teams from the sidelines with her brother Doug. She was a personal driver for all who needed her service. She was fascinated by politics and current events. She was a fashion-diva queen with much class, style and charisma. Bennie brought an unwavering spirit and generous heart to every interaction and poured love into every heart she met. To know her was to experience kindness, wisdom, warmth and a quiet strength. Bennie carried herself with dignity and gentleness, always offering comforting words and loving guidance to those around her. Her legacy of faith and love will forever remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Bennie Ruth Wilkerson King’s legacy continues through those she loved: 4 children, Ida W. Mayes, Mary C. King, Stephanie K. (Kennel) O’Steen, DeJuan White; 6 grandchildren, Unique, Precious (Dimitri), Diamond, Taia, Jade and Mycah; 7 great grandchildren, Lovely, Isaac IV, Jermaine Jr., Dimitri II, Isreal, Dorian and Onesti; 3 bonus children, Clarissa (Willie) Payne, Anissa (Kevin) Hillman, Jamie (Chris) Bouie; 4 bonus grandchildren; Querra, Raymond, Gabrielle and Christa; 8 Love children, Tammy O’Steen, Carissa Mayes-Bishop, Micheal Slain, Rodale Randolph, Pastor Patrick Sanders II, Mario Hollins, Yolanda Butcher and Erica Coleman; 5 Love grandchildren, Ameer, Tamara, June, Austin and Chelsea; 6 siblings; Flora Johnson- Logan, Ben (Methyal) Wilkerson Jr, Mary L. Hopkins, Daniel (Norma) Wilkerson, James D. (Gwendolyn) Wilkerson, Ronnie Scott and her dear close friends, Dell Grey, Catherine Callaway, Barbara Kirkland, Lula Lewis, Queenie Anderson, Joyce Baah, The entire Flint City Wide Choir, The Great Lakes District Family and special mother, Mother Rozine Handley along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family member, other dear friends and loved ones. Bennie was welcomed into glory by her parents, Ben and Lucille Wilkerson; her husband, Arthur L. King and her dear friend, James Grandberry, 2 Love children, Marquis Sanders and Rosalyn Grimes; her twin siblings, Roosevelt Clark and Ester Rea Wilford. Bennie’s legacy of love compassion and strength will continue to live on through the family and friends who loved her dearly.
