BENTON, Ms. Barbara - Age 60, passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at her residence. Family hour 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at Refuge Temple Church of Flint, 4400 W. Carpenter Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. Pastor Matthew Jackson officiating. Elder Seon Thompson Host Pastor. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Ms. Benton will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. There will be no public viewing. Ms. Barbara Benton was born June 9, 1955 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Johnie Benton, Jr. and Arzetta White. She graduated from Flint Northern High School, “Class of 1973.” Barbara retired from General Motors Corporation. She was a member of Refuge Temple Church of Flint. Barbara loved to shop and read. She was a very giving person with a good heart. Ms. Barbara Benton leaves to cherish her memory: beloved mother, Arzetta Hubbard; 4 sisters, Helen Benton, both of Flint, Mrs. Traci (Gary) Witherspoon of Charlotte, NC, Lynn Benton of Belleville, MI and Mrs. Erica Thompson; 3 brothers, Johnie Benton III, both of Flint, Ray Benton of Los Angeles, CA and Maurice (Brenda) Benton of Las Vegas, NV; 7 nieces, Quina, Alicia, Jordan, Menkaura, Taylor, Sydney and Jasmine; 5 nephews, Avonté, Bryan, Gary Nathan, Brandon and Jason; 3 aunts, Mrs. Ernestine (Ed) Abron of Flint, Ms. Laverne Watkins of Pine Bluff, AR and Elizibeth (AW) White; uncles, Athen White, all of Chicago, IL and E. Rodney White of Pine Bluff, AR; brother-in-law, Brian Thompson; a host of cousins, other relatives and friends including special friends, Mildred Elaine Rutherford, Antonia Warren and Mr. Gregory Smith, Sr. Ms. Benton was preceded in death by her son, Demetrius Breon Benton; father, Johnie Benton, Jr.; step-father, Mack Hubbard; grandparents, Zadie B. Frazure, Ozie White and Minnie Luster. The family would like to express special thanks to everyone for their love and support during our time of bereavement.
