Mrs. Augusta Marie Isom

ISOM, Mrs. Augusta - Age 70, gained her wings Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at Hurley Medical Center. Family hour 1:30 PM Wednesday, April 22, 2020 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM Pastor Willie Hill, officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 PM Wednesday. Mrs. Isom will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Tuesday. Mrs. Isom was born December 10, 1949 in Mill Creek, Arkansas to Howard Harris and Agnes Gragg. She professed her hope in Christ early in life at Strangers Rest AME Church (Wilmar, Arkansas). She attended Lincoln and Drew County schools in Arkansas and graduated in 1966. She blessed many with her culinary skills while working at General Motors Institute (GMI)/Kettering University (retiring in 2008) and at Encore Catering for 10 years. She was affectionately known as “Gussie” to her family and friends. She exhibited the traits of a mother hen who covered her family in love. The impenetrable bond she nurtured with her children made them inseparable. Gussie enjoyed cooking, talking on the phone and spending time with her family. Mrs. Isom leaves to cherish her memory: 3 children, Donna Isom, Kevin (LaTunga) Isom and David Isom of Flint, Michigan; brother Joseph (Lisa) Lewis of Clarksville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Keosha Johnson, Iyannah Isom-Brown, Horace Isom, Kevin Isom Jr, Kaden Isom, Tytianna Hassan; aunts, Ruthie Mae Vincent, Annie Jean (Earl) Ridgell, Elizabeth Harris; uncles, James (Bernstine) Harris, Waymon (Leota) Harris; special son, Tiris Strings; special daughter, Sheila Gardner and special granddaughter, Makiya Brown; a host of nieces, nephews, great grandchildren and other relatives and friends including special friends, Curlee Nelson and Ezell Grayson. Mrs. Isom was preceded in death by her parents, Howard Harris, Agnes Lewis and Ira Lee Lewis; sister, Angelia Y. Lewis; grandparents, Julian and Hazel Gragg; and aunt, Priscilla Juanice Watson. The family would like to express their gratitude to the Hurley Hospital Intensive Care Staff.
