Mr. Alphonzo Bowe

BOWE, Mr. Alphonzo - Age 95, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2023, at The Pines of Burton, Burton, MI. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Bethel United Methodist Church, 1309 N. Ballenger Hwy., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment Lovedale Memorial Cemetery, G-5175 E. Bristol Rd., Burton, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mr. Bowe will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. Alphonzo Bowe, Sr. was born on February 27, 1928 in Geridge, Arkansas to Bishop Justus Bowe and Rizlee Tanner Bowe. He was the youngest of five (5) children. His siblings were Samuel Bowe, Justus Bowe, Sedric Bowe and Ocie Perry. Mr. Bowe married Jewell Lee Lofton on January 25, 1953. They were married for 70 years and had three children, Alphonzo Bowe, Jr. of Odessa, TX, Pamela Bowe-Tabbs of White Plains, NY, and Donna Williams of Waldorf, MD. He became a member of Bethel United Methodist Church on November 29, 1992 under Rev. Alonzo Vincent, and served as an Usher for many years. Mr. Bowe worked for General Motors for 33.7 years until his retirement in 1986. He loved working on cars and could rebuild an engine with ease. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. He brought home many rabbits and venison, and our mom would cook them to perfection. When he would return from fishing, there was usually a chest full of fish to be cleaned and fried. He would always share his catch with neighbors. He was a quiet man with a big heart and would always help a neighbor in need. In later years, both Mr. and Mrs. Bowe loved watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Let’s Make a Deal and The Price is Right. Another favorite pastime was working on word puzzles. Mr. Bowe leaves to cherish his memory: daughters, Pamela (Michael) Bowe-Tabbs and Donna (Bowe) Williams; grandchildren , LeVonne (James) Bowe O’Donoghue, Siobhan (Drew) Bowe-Rives , Alphonzo Bowe, III, Drake Williams, Danae Williams, Danielle Williams, Candace Tabbs and Aundrea (Matthew) Tabbs Smith; greatgrandchildren, Iyanna Bowe, Ahmir Bowe, Ayden Bowe, Aspyn Bowe, Ava O’Donoghue, Haviland Points, Sydney Williams, Derek Smith, Charlee Smith and Garnett Smith. Mr. Bowe was preceded in death by his wife, Jewell Bowe; son, Alphonzo Bowe, Jr.; parents, Justus and Rizlee Bowe; brothers, Samuel, Justus and Sedric Bowe; and sister Ocie Perry.
