LONG, Mr. William "D. Baby" Age 78, passed away Thursday, September 23, 2021 at McLaren-Flint. Family hour 10:00 AM Monday, October 4, 2021 at New Heaven Missionary Baptist Church, 3184 W. Pierson Rd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Joseph Jenkins officiating. Interment Flint Memorial Park Cemetery, G9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the church 10:00 AM. Mr. Long will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Sunday. Mr. William Long affectionately known as “D. Baby” was born October 13, 1942 in Henson, Missouri, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Oddie Sr. and Maggie Long. He was the 2nd of 4 children. William graduated from Lincoln High School in 1961. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1962 and received an Honorable Discharge in 1965. William moved to Flint, Michigan where he found gainful employment with General Motors Corporation. He then sends for the love of his life, June Ellison and they married on November 5, 1965. During this union they raised a family which consisted of Pamela, Sonya and Cedric. William retired from General Motors on February 1, 2004, but not from serving his community. At New Heaven Missionary Baptist Church he served as President of the Laymen, Superintendent of Sunday School, singing with the Male Chorus and the Voices of New Heaven. His slogan was “Just Do It”, sharing God’s word where ever he went. He let his light shine!! William’s hobbies where coaching baseball and basketball, both for over 20+ years. The Flint All Stars was the baseball team his brother, Oddie Jr. played as well as his son, Cedric. Cee Jay’s was the basketball team where his nephew, E.K. had a chance to play. Mr. William Long leaves to cherish his memory: wife, June Long; 2 daughters, Pamela (Van) Pollard and Sonya Long; son, Cedric (Camille) Long, all of Flint; grandchildren, Peyonca Pollard of Burton, MI, Maurice Pollard of Flushing, MI, Danisha McNeal, Denarius Long, Christopher Long, all of Flint, Crystal Long, Regina Long, both of Houston, TX, Kevin Richardson of Florida and Mujahideen Ali of Flint; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara (Arnell) Borum; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; 4 sisters-in-law, Vernell Blackmon of Chicago, IL, Artie Hurst, Alsie Simpson and Norma Smith, all of Flint; 3 brothers-in-law, Opree (Margie) Ellison, Matthew (Kathleen) Ellison, all of Detroit, MI and Larry (Ida) Ellison of Memphis, TN; a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Long was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Zaniyah; parents, Oddie Sr. and Maggie Long; sister, Faye Dorothy; brother, Oddie Jr.; mother and father-in-law, Ervin and Nealie Ellison.
