EDWARDS, Deacon Will - Age 98, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at his residence. Family hour 10:30 AM Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Spirit of Victory Outreach, 2920 W. Court St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Janard Lakes, Host Pastor, Pastor Robert Smith Jr., officiating. Interment River Rest Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:30 AM Wednesday. Deacon Edwards will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., and may be viewed from 1:00 PM-6:00 PM Tuesday. Deacon Will Edwards was born on February 10, 1923 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Will and Beulah (Jackson) Edwards. He was the last surviving of 10 children. Deacon Edwards received his education through the U.S. Army, where he served our country. He was a Corporal in World War II. Due to lack of work after his honorable discharge, he relocated to Michigan where he was employed until he retired by General Motors. He married the love of his life Mother Rosa Lee Lakes in 1948. God blessed their union with three children. They were happily married for 61 years before she went home to the Lord in 2010. Deacon Edwards enjoyed fishing, hunting, and most of all gardening. He even won an award for his garden through Edible Flint. He was a faithful member of New St. James C.O.G.I.C. in Flint, Michigan. Deacon Edwards loved the Lord and love to serve in the church. He was the church janitor, handy man, security, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, Chairman, and Trustee. If you ever attended a service with him, you knew the Spirt was high when he lifted his hands. Even has his health declined, he ensured that Sunday School books where ordered and delivered in time for service. Lastly, his most pride and joy was his family. He leaves to cherish in his memory and legacy; a son, Leonard Edwards Sr., a daughter, Rita (Ozell) Waters; 1 adoptive daughter, Anita Joshua, all of Flint, MI; 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and step grandchildren; 2 god children, Wesley (Chantel) Patton of Lansing, MI and Rochelle Wilson of Flint, MI; a host of nieces, nephews, and other friends and dear relatives, including the New St. James Church family. Deacon Will Edwards was preceded in death by, parents, Will and Beulah Edwards, siblings, son, Victor Edwards, and lovely wife Mother Rosa Lee Edwards.
