Moon Funeral Home with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Rev. Dr. Henry L. Fuller, officiating. Interment Gracelawn Community Cemetery, 5710 N. Saginaw St. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 AM Saturday. Mr. Johnson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. Mr. Smitty Tyrone Johnson was born September 22, 1959 in Flint, Michigan to Smith Johnson, Sr. and Willie B. (Jones) Johnson. Smitty accepted Christ, as His Lord and Savior, and was baptized at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church by the late Rev. Dr. Granville Smith, Jr. Smitty (referred to as Tyrone by his family) attended Hamady High School. He was employed by General Motors Flint Assembly until an injury, in 1983, that left him quadriplegic. Throughout life’s challenges, he didn’t complain and he never ceased to praise God, acknowledge His goodness and profess his love and faith in God. Smitty relocated to the Pontiac area for physical therapy then, he moved to Marysville, Michigan where he resided for the past 24 years. While there, he became a member of the Great Commission Church. Smitty also became involved with the Manhood Program, a county-wide youth program called SONS (Save our Neighborhoods and Streets) that mentored junior high school boys. He was very passionate about his involvement with these boys and remained active until he was no longer physically able to do so. Smitty had a great sense of humor and could always make you laugh with his witty comments. He was an avid sports fan and a devoted Detroit Pistons and Detroit Lions fan. Even though limited in mobility, no one could out text him. This was his means of reaching out to family and friends who he loved dearly. On any given game night, you could find him texting back and forth between his sister, Diane, and brother-in-law, Earl, throughout the entire game, making play-by-play commentaries. He was their first text every morning and their last text every night. Mr. Smitty Tyrone Johnson leaves to cherish precious memories: devoted companion/caregiver of 24 years, Laura Britz, 4 sisters, Diane (Earl) Crowder, who he lovingly referred to as “Mommy Dearest” and Rochelle Johnson of Flint, Deborah Johnson of Shreveport, LA, who shipped him delicious homecooked meals and sweet potato pies and Vernice Grover of Waukegan, IL.; 2 brothers, Sherrod Johnson of Frisco, Texas and Bill (Ruthy) Quarles of Holly, MI; nieces, including a special niece, Katonya Willingham, who he affectionately referred to as “Tuna Fish”, Shanique Presley, Teneà Johnson, Tequila Crawford, Imondrè Johnson and Miyah Johnson; nephews, Vonroyce Johnson, Curtis Johnson, Jr., Victor (Rosa) Johnson, LaQuan (Jamie) Johnson, Cecil Washington IV, Aarien Johnson, Jazmond Blakely, Charles Johnson, Jr., Darrin (Diana) Johnson, Jamal (Trisha) Quarles, Jeremiah (Candice) Quarles and Jonathan Quarles; a host of great-nieces and one great-great-niece and his biggest fan, Jornèt Willingham who he nicknamed “Jordee”, great-nephews, cousins and childhood and longtime friends including, Dorsey Cummings, Jr., Jody (Lisa) Blackwell, Phillip Miller, Jessie Todd, Terry Franklin, Pastor Gene Watson and Frank Santiago.
