FNKLEA, Ms. Sherry Lakay - Age 54, passed away Friday, June 3, 2022, at her residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, June 11, 2022, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Keith Bigelow, officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home 10:00 AM Saturday. Ms. Finklea will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Friday. Ms. Sherry Lakay Finklea affectionately known as “Poopie” was born August 13, 1967 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Jeanelle and Clifton Finklea. Sherry graduated from Flint Northwestern High School, “Class of 1985.” She was a life-long resident of Flint. Sherry attended Detroit College of Business and became a Para Professional for the Flint Community School System until her health began to fail. She did not have any children of her own, but loved working with them. Sherry adored spending time with family, traveling and she loved listening to the Blues. Sherry accepted Christ at an early age and sang in the Angel Choir, Inspirational Voices and the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church Mass Choir. Ms. Sherry Lakay Finklea leaves to cherish her memory: mother, Jeanelle Finklea; sisters, Terry Arnold (Colvin) and Sherika Finklea, all of Flint; brother, Clifton Finklea Jr. of Red Spring, NC; nephews and nieces, Colvin Arnold Jr. of LA, Alicia Arnold of Ocean Springs, MS, and Brandon Finklea (Jasmine) of Duluth, GA; special niece, Kennedi Stokes of Flint; uncle, Roosevelt (Shelia) Dawkins of Surprise, AZ; aunts, Pamela Dawkins (Willie), Lavern Dawkins and Nora Dawkins, all of Flint; cousins, Crystal Pugh (James) of Akron, OH, Tomisha Woods (Kelvin) of Atlanta, GA, Julie Jones (Slyvester) of Grand Rapids, MI, Dewan Dawkins (Lakisha), James Dawkins Jr., all of Flint, and Tonya (Carl) Hughes of Evansville, IN; very special friend, Kevin Giles; a host of other dear relatives and friends. Ms. Finklea was preceded in death by her father, Clifton Finklea Sr.; grandparents, Martha and Johnnie Dawkins, Laura and Daniel Finklea; uncles, James and Levi Dawkins, Robert and Earl Finklea; best friend, Kim Walker.
