Mr. Richard Louis Ryans Jr.

RYANS, Mr. Richard - Age 95, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2022 at Majestic Care of Flushing, Public Viewing will be held Monday, February 14, 2022, 10:30 AM-12:30 PM at Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G-4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Richard L. Ryans, Jr. was born January 14, 1927, in Greensboro, Alabama. He was the 4th of 7 children born to the late Richard L. Ryans, Sr. and late Clara (Gant) Ryans. Upon moving to Flint, Michigan, Richard graduated from Hale County Training School and then served in the US Army during World War II (stationed in Germany); honorably discharged. Richard later became a proud member of American Legion Post #306, serving as Chaplain for many years. After returning from active duty, carpentry was his skilled trade of choice. Although he had no children of his own, Richard’s friends and nephews spent summers in Flint, MI as his apprentices learning every aspect of his career as a carpenter. Richard dedicated his life to Christ and was a faithful member of St. Mark Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. J.S. Hopkins and presently Pastor Kevin Thompson, serving on many ministries. He would greet everyone with a friendly, “Hello, ‘how you?”. At first most thought of him as meek, but after a while you experienced the jokester in Richard. As family and friends, we all enjoyed the cakes he delivered on birthdays and special occasions, annual Christmas cards, jars of spiced pears picked from his tree given as gifts, and we will never forget the smell and taste of his famous fried chicken. We must mention, Uncle Richard stayed well-groomed, only a select few have witnessed him in blue jeans. Richard made his transition from labor to reward peacefully on Thursday, February 3, 2022. He leaves to cherish his memories, 5 nephews: Albert “Junior” (Gloria) Webster, III, Robert "Bobby" Webster, both of Flint, MI, Dr. Louis (Rebecca) Lacey of Richmond, VA, Richard (Mimi) Ryans of Columbia, MD, Charles (Naida) Ryans, Jr. of Woodside, NY; 5 nieces: Felecia Ryans of Rochester Hills, MI, Donna (Robert) Reed of Cordova, TN, Gloria Nicks of Flint, MI, Mary "Lois" Epps-Owens, and Patricia Yvonne (Nadje) Webster-Samad both of Portsmouth, VA; 2 sisters-in-law, Almarie Ryans of Flint, MI, Rosa Ryans of Rochester Hills, MI; host of great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, and friends. Richard L. Ryans, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents Richard L., Sr., and Clara, all siblings, 4 brothers: Charles, Robert, Clarence, Ulysses; 2 sisters: Clara and Mary; 2 nieces: Veronica and Julita Ryans, and 2 nephews: Ishmael “Smokey” Lacey and Edward C. Webster.The family would like to extend special thanks to Calvin Childs, the Greene/Harvey/Steele/Taylor/Webster/ families, Majestic Care of Flushing, MI Staff, Pastor Kevin Thompson and the St. Mark Baptist Church family, and Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home. Mr. Richard L. Ryans Jr., was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army.
