Mr. Melvin Levern Reid Sr.

January 13, 1931 - May 22, 2021

REID, Mr. Melvin L. Sr. - Age 90, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Briarwood Nursing Home. Family hour 1:30 PM Wednesday, June 2, 2021 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 2:00 PM. Interment Flint Memorial Park, G-9506 N. Dort Hwy., Mt. Morris, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 PM Wednesday. Mr. Reid will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Tuesday. Mr. Melvin Levern Reid Sr. was born January 13, 1931 in Cotton Plant, Arkansas, the son of Willie Joe and Johnnie Wilhelmina Reid. Melvin accepted Christ at an early age at Taylor Chapel Methodist Church in Cotton Plant, AR. After moving to Flint, Michigan, he joined Old Bethel United Methodist Church on 12th St. in Flint. Melvin was active in various church activities, such as the Bethel United Methodist Men, the Picnic Committee. In 2005, Melvin participated in a relief effort for the Victims of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, LA. He packed his motor home with donations from the member of the church and drove there himself. Melvin retired from General Motors Corporations with 34 years of service. In his pastime he loved to fish, hunt and was a C’ber, his handle was “Crocker Gator”. Melvin’s most favorite pastime was training his famous Great Danes, Frankenstein and Lincoln. He was affectionately known in downtown Flint as the “Dog Man”. Melvin truly loved his family and church. Mr. Melvin Levern Reid Sr. leaves the cherish his memory: devoted wife, Wannetta Reid of Flint; 5 daughters, Doris (Joe) Middleton of St. Louis, MO, Valerie Reid, Jennifer Reid, Paula Reid and Zenobia Reid; 2 sons, Melvin Reid Jr. and Alonzo Reid; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchldren; sister, Barbara Dogan of Grand Rapids, MI; 2 brothers, Elder T.C. (Doris) Reid of Davenport, IA and Robert (Lynn) Reid of Chicago, IL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Mr. Reid was preceded in death by his children, Sharon Brewer and Curtis Reid; parents, Willie Joe and Johnnie Wilhelmina Reid; siblings, Willie Aurelius Reid, Elder Warner Franklin Reid, Wilhelmina J. Saunders and Dr. Zenobia White. The family would like to express special thanks to the Care Team at Heartland Health Care Center-Briarwood and Flint.
