PLEASANT, Mrs. Margaret - Age 78, passed away Monday, November 29, 2021 at The Oaks at Woodfield, Grand Blanc Township, MI. Family hour 10:30 AM Wednesday, December 15, 2021 from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM Pastor Otis Nunn Jr., officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery, G4200 Belford Rd., Holly, MI. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:30 AM Wednesday. Mrs. Pleasant will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Tuesday. Margaret Ethel Robinson Pleasant was born in Norfolk, Virginia, the eldest child of the late James D. and Ethel Overton Robinson. Her parents moved to Flint when she was an infant and resided in Flint's Southside. Margaret married Jack Pleasant and was the parents of two daughters and three granddaughters. An ardent climate change advocate, Margaret believed in and practiced recycling to save the environment. She loved to cook for and travel with her large family. Margaret attended the Flint Public School system, Clark Elementary School, Whittier Junior High School, and Flint Central High School. After Southwestern High School opened and rezoned, Margaret transferred to Flint Southwestern High School in 1961 and was among the second class to graduate. After graduating from Southwestern, Margaret attended Baker Business School (now Baker College) and, in 1963, worked as a clerk typist at the Genesee County Probate Court. She held many positions during her career, including legal secretary and court reporter. In 1981, Margaret was the first African American in Michigan to hold the office of Probate Register for Genesee County. Her duties included supervising and maintaining all Probate records for the Estate and Mental Divisions of the Court. Her commitment was to ensure and uphold the integrity of laws governing those divisions, which she did with exacting standards, professionalism, and excellence. Margaret worked on many statewide committees. She assisted in developing a tracking system for all probate cases, a coding system, and the guidelines for recording and coding cases in the State of Michigan. She served as the Second Vice President, First Vice President, and President of the Michigan. State Probate Register's Association. After retiring in 1988, Margaret served as a volunteer for the Michigan Democratic Party and a member of the South Side Action Committee for Social Reform. Her parents, two brothers, Donald "James" and Donnie "Butch" Robinson, sister Janet Robinson, and nephews James "Lucky" Robinson and Erik McWilliams, predeceased her. Margaret’s family will cherish her memory; husband, Jack Pleasant, two daughters, Shanean Pleasant Burke and Robin Pleasant of Flint, granddaughters, Erica Burke and Nina Burke of Atlanta, GA and Taylor Pleasant of Flint; two sisters, Juanita Robinson (Lionel) Moltimore of Atlanta, GA and Kathy Robinson of Flint; five nephews, David "Lefty" Lawrence Robinson of Lansing, Antwaun (Nicole) Robinson of Phoenix, AZ, Dondrick (Trachelle) Robinson of Houston, TX and Zachary Franklin of Flint; five nieces, Janelle (six children) including Danielle, and Brittany Robinson, Tara Pearson and of Flint; great-nieces, Za’Niya Franklin, Kasey Robinson and her children, Ziyon, Zayden, and Zayvier and great-nephews, David Robinson, Jr., of Lansing, Ca’Ron Boyd of Flint,Myka, Larry, Miguel and Michael Robinson-McClain; first cousins Dr. Doris A. Overton of Virginia Beach, Mrs. Deloris Overton (Alonzo) Short and John E. (Yvonne) Overton, Jr., of Portsmouth, VA; and Carolyn Robinson Green of Delaware, and very close friends Gloria and Oscar McNairy of Detroit.
