MATHIS, Mrs. Mable - Age 94, passed away Friday, March 25, 2022, in Wisconsin. Family hour 10:00 AM Friday, April 8, 2022, from the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the funeral home 10:00 AM Friday. Mrs. Mathis will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM Thursday. Mother Mable (Daugett) Mathis was born September 2, 1927 in Edgefield, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Joseph and Rosa Daugett. She was baptized at an early age while being a member of Trinity AME Church, and attended Edgefield Academy Schools until she graduated the 12th grade. Mother Mathis relocated at the age of 22 to Washington D.C., where she lived with her older sister Mary Julia Lee. While living in D.C., Mable worked at Bourbon Washateria and reconnected with the love of her life, Johnnie Mathis. Later on, she and Johnnie decided to marry, and move to Flint, Michigan in 1954 where they built their family and careers. In 1968 at the age of 41, Mable became a Certified Nursing Assistant at St. Joseph’s Hospital and retired in 1992. Mable was a member, church Mother and Deaconess at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church. Outside of being a devoted wife and mother, she was an unmatched cook and loved to sing and dance. Mable was always a positive influence on numerous people, and was always a great joy to be around. Mother Mathis leaves to cherish her memory: three daughters, Louvornia (Lee) Ross of Utica, MS, Johnnie (Robert) Brown of Romulus, MI and Juliet (Tony) Finney of Oak Creek, WI; grandchildren, Lee Ross Jr., Don S. Lilly, Shawnta Lilly, Laracio Ross, Nathaniel Nard III, Tony M. Finney II and Mauricia S Finney; a host of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; sister, Josie (Ruffus) Simpkins of Lanham, MD; and a host of other relatives and friends. Mother Mathis was preceded in death by: her husband, Johnnie Mathis; her parents, Joseph and Rosa Daugett; siblings, Mary Julia Lee, Edward Daugett, Albert Daugett, Robert Daugett, Marion Daugett, Mattie Lee Nei Smith and Rosa Lee Daugett; special friends, Leroy and Mary Irvine.
