CARTER, Mr. Lonzo - Age 78, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at the VA Hospital in Saginaw, MI. Family Hour 10:30AM Friday, May 14, 2021 from the Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM. Rev. Ronald P. Jackson, officiating. Interment Great Lakes National Cemetery G-4200 Belford, Rd. Family and Friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 AM Friday. Mr. Carter will lie instate in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00PM Thursday. Mr. Lonzo Carter Jr. (II) was born on June 24, 1942 in Clarksdale, Mississippi, the son of Mr. Lonzo Carter, Sr., and Mrs. Thelma (Brooms) Carter. Both parents and step-father Rev. Elie Jackson, Sr., preceded him in death. Lonzo confessed Christ as his personal savior at a very early age. He joined church and was baptized by Rev. L. T. Terrell at Shady Grove M. B. Church in Lyon, Mississippi. Lonzo’s family moved from Clarksdale, Mississippi to Chicago, Illinois, and later on Lonzo moved to Flint, Michigan where he met and married his former wife, Mrs. Virginia L. (Coulter) Carter (preceded in death). From this union 2 children were born, LaTonya Carter and Lonzo Carter, III. Lonzo was a fun-loving person, a good guy to know, a friend like no other, and he loved his family dearly. Lonzo was a United States Army Vietnam War Veteran and received an Honorable Discharge. He also was a member of the local Disabled American Veterans Chapter #122. Lonzo was very ambitious and an entrepreneur at heart. He had an extensive employment history and he also owned his own tractor trailer. Lonzo loved the outdoors, particularly gardening. Some called him Mr. Green Thumb. He was very instrumental in planting a community vegetable garden where he planted various vegetables that were harvested, and shared with local and neighboring communities. Lonzo received his marching orders on Tuesday, May 4, 2021. He is now at peace. Mr. Lonzo Carter Jr. (II) leaves in God’s care and to cherish his memory: 2 daughters, LaTonya Carter of Texas and Vannette Brown; 3 sons, Lonzo Carter III, Joshua Carter and Justin Carter, all of Flint; 11 grandchildren, Desire Tackett, Caleb Carter, both of Arizona, Sirod Carter, Pharrell Carter, Joshua Carter II, all of Texas, Giselle Carter of Pontiac, MI, Jayla Alona Carter, Marsha Little, James Conley, Erion Osborn and Erinn Osborn, all of Flint; siblings, Jesse “Al” (Annie) Carter, Robert Carter Sr., Elie Jackson Jr., Rev. Ronald P. (Tina) Jackson, Sr., Lillie Glover, Cynthia (Jerry) Jefferson, Mattie Coble, Marvin (Jacalyn) Jackson; brother-in-law, Alford Cathey; (Siblings who preceded Lonzo in death: Charles Jackson, Anthony Jackson, and Thelma Cathey); a cousin, Archie Byrd, who was like a brother, a close friend, Robert Little, his courageous and noble guardian angel, Ms. Nola Walker, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. We, the family, would like to thank the entire Byrd, Spiller, Bates, Foote and Anderson families for their undisputed love and support for Lonzo throughout his journey of life. We also would like to thank everyone who called with kind words, those who sent supportive text messages, and those who stopped by, the doctors, hospital staff, Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, his gardening friends, Joe, Louis, Dennis, Gwen and Eddie, etc. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
