Mr. Wright was Honorably Discharged from the United States Army. As the fireworks were blazing, sparkling and lighting the clear early morning sky on July 5, 2021, God called His good and faithful servant, Lewis “McCoy” Wright home to be with Him in eternal glory. Lewis Wright, affectionately called “McCoy” or “Coy”, was born on May 7, 1948 in Enfield, NC to parents John and Gladys Wright. He was the second oldest of 11, 9 girls and 2 boys. He was a great man who served his country in the United States Army and was a proud Vietnam Veteran and received a Bronze Star Metal. After graduating from Flint Southwestern, he attended college and later became a Skilled Trades Electrician for General Motors, Buick division, retiring after 34 years. Lewis met the love of his life, Clementine Cooper, in 1971. Over the course of a year, after sending letters and only seeing each other 3 times, on the 4th visit they were united in holy matrimony, in North Carolina, on August 21, 1972. To this union was born one son (Lamont) and one daughter (Ouida). Lewis was the epitome of the term “family man”. He stopped at nothing to provide for his wife and children. He also was a father to many, serving as Co-Founder of Stewart School’s Boys Club and assisting with his wife’s gift of nurturing children by providing in home childcare and regarding those children as their own. Lewis accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at an early age. He was a faithful member of Grace Emmanuel Baptist Church in Flint, MI for over 40 years. He loved his church family and he served on the Philadelphia Ministry, extending a hand and greeting those ready to dedicate their life to Jesus Christ. That welcoming outstretched hand didn’t stop extending there. Lewis was a part of Keep Genesee County Beautiful, President of Burr Blvd Block Club, assisted with Flint City Council to continue to make his community prosper and thrive and an active member of the South Side Reunion Committee. Lewis not only loved his family, but he loved his Detroit Tigers. Following his love of baseball, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking new recipes he found online, collecting vintage items (furniture, collector cards, coins), repairing and restoring radios, watching old movies, and collecting Coca-Cola paraphernalia. Lewis “McCoy”, was a fun-loving, caring, welcoming, warm-hearted, an incredibly smart handyman, his wife and children’s superman, sharing and supportive person. His motto was “If I can’t do anything to help you, I definitely won’t hurt you”. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Clementine Wright of Flint, MI; son, Lamont (Monique) Wright of Flint, MI; daughter, Ouida (Andre) Brown of Grand Blanc, MI; grandchildren, Gyasi Wright of Tolleson, AZ, Marlii Wright of Davison, MI, Miranda Spears of Houston, TX, Jordan Fields of Davison, MI, and Asa Brown of Grand Blanc, MI; siblings, Hazel (Frank) Miller of Flint, MI, Phyllis (Harvey) Slaughter of Whitmore Lake, MI, Robin (Gregory) McMullen of Longwood, FL, Mary Arther of Flint, MI, Larry (June) Wright of Davison, MI, Barbara Miller of Grand Blanc, MI, Kathy Wright of Grand Blanc, MI, Mildred Wright (Demetri) Relford of Lawrenceville, GA, Tammy (Aaron) Wooten of Flushing MI, and Mary and Ocie Johnson of Flint Township, MI; god-daughters, Syreeta Moore, and Pamela Coppage; god-grandchildren, Morgan Keels, Charles Lee Coppage Jr., Crystal Coppage; special friends, Andy Czymbor, Doris Keels and Gloria Brown; a host of aunts, uncles, sisters and brothers-n-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
